I logged in tonight to find the forums combined and grouped as sub forums

Why?

Adding layers of navigation serves no purpose. It is much better when the forums are more open

I dont know I kinda like it. Before I had to scroll past what seemed like 100 topics before getting to motorsports. Now I just scroll past 2 or 3 and I am there. It makes everything a bit cleaner IMO.

I +1 the sentiment. The forums were great before. I hate the ED forums for having to go into a forum to get into a sub-forum to get into a sub-sub-forum. Please change it back.

I have to sit on the 'do not like' side of the fence, sorry. Primarily because it makes it tough to see if there are any new and interesting topics.
The cleaner aspect, as well as the more prominent 'main' forum for each section is good, however. Not sure how to get a best of both worlds option...

I've never been a fan of child forums, except for locked archives. They either add a step in navigation or they aren't really changing things in a forum list, or they just confuse people between posting on the general topic vs the sluggish child forum.

I'd just combine the console hardware with the regular console forum. Split like that will just result in the hardware sub-forum going unused.
Thanks for the maintenance to try to streamline though.

NOT an improvement.

I don't like it either. I used to scroll down the page and I could see each new post for each forum at a glance, now every forum shares the newest post (singular) w/ every forum in the parent directory.

Yes this is not helping the user, you have to navigate through an additional level in order to see the new posts. If you're watching multiple "main" forums (say WW2, Modern Era, Heli, Tactical Sims etc) you have that many extra pages to open. And most of us are likely interested in more than just one area of simulations. And the benefit is less scrolling? Well this small win hardly makes up for the inconvenience it created.

ps: i'll admit it probably looks better, however functionality beats looks every time. Or it should.

Some of the changes are fine, like putting together the Misc catagory. But the changes to the main catagories is less than useful.

I check the site with the "active topics" -> "24 hours" selection, as a bookmark. I'll still have to check how it looks now. Haven't even seen it yet.

Just me, but I never could get any practical use out of those newest post listings for each forum. Firstly, they are truncated, often to the point of futility. Secondly, most of the time there are *many topics* with new posts which are completely left out of that view.

WARNING: This post contains opinions produced in a facility which also occasionally processes fact products.

Agree with other posters that this change is counter-intuitive.

It would at least let you see if there was any new posts in a forum since you last visited, useful for some slower forums like the ArmA and Battlefield series.

Not the biggest fan of the combined, cleaner look, but I'm sure I'll get used to it, just like the color changes made previously.

Did we also lose the news items on the front page? I looked forward to those, but I guess it was too much work to keep up with it all the time.
