Hi, I am currently looking to get new Projectors and was wondering will it be worth to get a newer video card.. I currently have a 480GTX and was wondering if I would get much of a difference out of a 580??

Now it would be cheaper to just get another 480 GTX and that way I can use nVidias Surround need 2 cards..So would there be much of an improvement over 2 - 480's to 2 - 580's??

I am NOT playing the Latest sims and my current Computer plays anything so far just fine??

With the price of the GTX 480, I can't see how that would be a good deal. You could get two GTX 560 Ti cards for the price of one GTX 480. I don't know why prices for a card that is getting so long in the tooth are so high.

well basically I already have the 1 480GTX that I paid $150 for.. Now the cost for a new one is around $350.. so if I buy 2 new 580GTX's that will be near $1000 dollars..

My reasoning is the it would be Cheaper to buy 1 480 GTX vs 2 new 580's.. So I ask would the Difference in FPS Per games be that noticable or worth the EXTRA Cost involved to upgrade to 2 580's vs. buying 1 more new 480GTX???? I think I know the answer just wanted other peoples thoughts??

I do NOT want a 560ti..

I guess you are going to upgrade your 3 projectors to fullHD, for a resolution of 5760x1080? Optoma HD20 or have you found a good deal on another beamer, like the ViewSonic Pro8200 Projector?

You can get an impression of the performance difference between the 480gtx and the 580gtx in SLI setup. In 1920x1200 resolution, the difference stays around 10% :

I'll see if they have some numbers on WSGF.

Not found benchmarks yet, but found a nice pr-gimmick for Eyefinity/Surround gaming.

The answer to your question would be to get the 480. Two 480 cards would be right up there.

I was just saying two 560 ti cards will outdo one 580, much less a 480.

580 SLI vs 480 SLI....

That price thing happened with the HD5870.

They were selling originally for around $400. HD6xxx came out and the HD5870 dropped to $205 on special sale. Stayed that way for a while. I got two at about $205 -- a month or two apart. When only a couple HD5870 models were left, the price went back up to near the original $400.

yes I am going with some Certified S3D Projectors for nVidia 3D Vision Surround..Currently I have them set at 3072x768 and have to wear the S3D GLasses UpsideDown kinda sucks but it works..

With the new Projectors the native res is 1024x768 but it can go higher.. I am getting them for $350 Each and at $500 for the other 720P Native res I can't see the extra money for something I can get with the lower cost Projectors..But I am still debating that one..

I think from what I saw the 2 580's are NOT much of an improvement. I am just going to go with adding 1 more 480GTX to the mix.. I will also be watercooling the Rig..

Thnx Guys/Gals..

Ah. Well, then benchmarks taken at 1920x1200 can be used as good guide. No point in feeding beamers (much like LCD) anything but their native resolution.
