Thanks for the heads-up. As if having the day off wasn't good enough there's an RoF update to boot. Who says Monday's suck?

75% and counting...

Edit: To me this game is terrible without TiR.. Will be back in a couple of days!

Heck, I was so amped about getting things back to "normal" (and it is now!) I forgot all about the RE8. Gotta go fly it right now!

OK, ANOTHER stupid question-does the RE8 have an adjustable mixture and radiator? Didn't see anything move in the cockpit and didn't see any RPM changes when I adjusted the mixture.

This is a big one for me. The RE8 stands in for a huge number of allied 2 seaters from late 1916 to mid/late 1917 and even into 1918.

Looks like automatic mixture and no radiator on the RE8. Unusual for an Entente aircraft, but I guess it was designed to just chug along. The cockpit is very nicely modelled, and all those turnbuckles in the rigging are a great touch. Overall, a very nice addition to the sim.

Well the N.17 is much more like I dreamed it would be (note: I like my planes imperfect). It *seems* more robust, a bit heavier on the controls and with a higher roll rate.

The R.E.8 has good visibility and responsive but gentle handling. The lower speed and single gun make one feel less like a tank and more like a vulnerable two-seater.

The custom response curves will also be useful for those of us with older joysticks. All in all, a very pleasing update.

It's a nice, easy-flying aircraft and it makes me wonder even more how men volunteered to climb into these things knowing that other men were intent on shooting them out of the skies.

Lambs led to slaughter was my first thought...

No it does not have adjustable mixture in RoF, don't know though if the real thing had.

Regarding an adjustable radiator i advise to take a close look at the R.E.8's engine .. sure you would not search for a liquid-cooled radiator in a VW beetle ?
biggrin

Ahh hell, I didn't even notice it was an air-cooled engine. How the heck did they get that to work-a 12 cylinder aircooled engine? They were men among men...

That thing looks like exactly what it is - ugly, straight forward, utilitarian.

I would imagine that many men met their death in it. Still can't believe that they went willingly....

Not a case of willingly for many, rather a case of 'doing my duty' or 'not wanting to be seen to let the side down'..
Different morals and standards back then, if a man gave his word or an oath, it was binding..

I'm sure that most would have preferred to be in Bristols, but one didn't really have much of a choice. In the end it was still probably viewed as much better than PBI.

Yeah, I guess I can understand it. We all thought we were invinvible in our Hueys but in reality, they didn't take alot of damage- worth a crap. Guess it falls under the innocence of youth and the feeling of invincibility when you are young....

With all that being said, I still can't imagine climbing into one of these slow and unmaneuverable two seaters knowing that you're a priority target!
