So I got the bluray of this movie for my birthday and just tonight got around to watching it. I'm not sure if it's because I've gotten older or maybe my tastes have become pickier but I found the acting and a lot of the dialogue to be B-movie quality and cheesy. Oh well, what makes the film still watchable for me are all of the new Predator weapons and getting to see the inside of the Predator ship and the legendary trophy case with the Alien head in it. smile

Not due to age, I remember thinking that in the theater when it came out. Such a good cast, but kind of wasted, don't you think? A lot of names in there, but most don't get enough screen time or character development.
The Predator was cool, and I liked the weapons too. I thought the ship with the trophies and hint at AvP made the movie as well. Still a fun flick to watch on a regular basis.

Yup, I blame the director and scriptwriters for that. We all know that Danny Glover, Bill Paxton and Ruben Blades can act.

Gary Busey was his typical over-the-top, intense self. biggrin

Without Ahnold it didn't have a chance.
I definitely didn't like Predator two as much as the first one. It had its moments though and since I haven't seen it in a long time I would watch it again.

Imo, Maria was the best thing about Predator 2.

I liked AvP 1 more than Predator 2. However, Predator 2 still blows away AvP Requiem. That one film elevated the rest of both franchises to unforeseen heights.

I really like the first AvP, even if it's a little thin with the alien gestation etc.
I hope the new project has the feel of the first Alien movie though, I want something more scifi and a little less action. More exploration. Pretty sure that's what we'll get.

Seeing as Prometheus is directed by Ridley Scott as well I'm pretty sure we will get that indeed. smile

I also like AvsP 1 and even own the dvd and for the most part it's a pretty solid action sci-fi film.

Hard to know. Ridley today is not 70s or 80s Ridley. He even states in the commentary of Blade Runner that if he did it today it would be very different.

P2's problem for me was it felt like another type of movie with a Predator thrown in. It was like Lethal Weapon - Mel Gibson + Predator - humor - good dialogue = Predator 2.

LOL I can't dispute that.

And while I don't think Danny Glover did a bad job in the lead role I can think of plenty of other actors who I think would have been much better.

Some trivia I got from IMDB about the film,

At one point Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to co-star in the film, but chose to do Terminator 2: Judgment Day instead.

At one point, Patrick Swayze was approached to star in the film but was unable because he was injured during the filming of Road House.

The plot underwent a few changes in its earliest stages. Gary Busey's character, Keyes, was actually intended to be Dutch, Arnold Schwarzenegger's character from the first film. Schwarzenegger was very outspoken against the sequel's concept, feeling that taking it into the city was a bad idea, and declined the role.

Sounds like Arnold got it right about taking it into the city being a bad idea.

T2 over P2? I think Arnold chose very wisely.

Of course, he did Collateral Damage, Eraser, The Sixth Day, Kindergarten Cop...

So it balanced out.

I actually like Eraser and it did quite well at the box office too! Collateral Damage, The Sixth Day and End of Days are all forgettable to me though.

Agreed. I enjoyed True Lies in addition to Eraser.

I liked End of Days and that clone movie he did. Didn't like the others of that era.

Ends of Days and Sixth Day pretty much WERE that era. After that was just Collateral Damage and T3 before he went to politics. Before that was Eraser, Jingle All the Way, and Batman and Robin.
For me, post-T2 the only films he did I liked enough to buy on DVD were T3 and True Lies. Everything else was just ok at best, lame at worst.

I didn't even bother buying T3 on dvd. It's a perfect example of a film that I found no huge glaring problems but also a film that I didn't like enough to bother buying. The Terminator franchise most certainly suffered from the absence of James Cameron.
