Heh! Yeah, radial head fracture. smile

Bizarrely, I was in the ortho clinic this morning with a girl who fell off her bike at the same intersection on the same morning and got the same radial head fracture on the same arm. We were numbers nine and eleven in terms of cyclists who'd hit the ice that morning and ended up in the Emergency Room.

You got morphine!?!? no fair.

even though it has been almost 3 years since I fell off my mtn bike, (it was my left elbow also), it still hurts sometimes. Range of motion has never been the same since either. My advice, Go to physio, Do the exercises. I wish I had.

Have them set the cast so you can still reach your throttle! I've luckily (knock on wood) never broke anything from bike riding, and I've had my large share of hairy wrecks on BMX bikes! Guess I'm made of rubber or something.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

I ended up having to go back to Emergency 12 hours after the accident because I was in so much pain. They dosed me up with two shots of morphine and an 8mg Dilaudid (I think) tablet. I was still in agony walking home after that.

It's actually been a week since the accident, but when I went to the Ortho Clinic this morning they really emphasized the importance of getting it moving NOW and doing the physio. The physio basically told me "You can start moving it now and lose maybe 10% of the motion in your elbow or you can keep it stiff and lose all of the mobility". I guess I'll (try to) take Option A. smile

Sounds like you've been very lucky. smile

As for the cast, they don't actually put a cast (or any other form of support) on an elbow because having teh elbow heal "frozen" is actually their biggest concern. I was kind of shocked at first when they said "Yeah it's broken - you can go home now", but Tim's story has me seeing the logic of their approach.

That's what you get for trying to patch A-10 while on your bike!

Morphine! Lucky man! They tried to reposition the bottom of my left ulna when i'd had...ibuprofen! Actually, I think they gave me morphine when I was out and they were doing surgery a few days later. Anyway, hope you recover quickly and end up back in the cockpit soon.

Ah, it's the left hand. Well, you can do physio with it on the throttle lever then!

Problem solved, move along folks!

I thought exactly the same thing until I realised that my girlfriend of the last 16 years would probably break my other arm and a few other bits and pieces if she found out. biggrin

It's true. The relationship's been great for the last 16 years, so we've never really seen the need to make it official. Neither of us really likes to be in the spotlight either, so it's been easy to ignore.

On the flip side, this last couple of months has seen a hint or two on the grounds that she's starting to feel that "girlfriend" sounds stupid as we're getting older and "partner" is too ambiguous.

I guess it's about time... smile

I've known my wife for 16 years, and we've been married the last 13. It really didn't change much except how things like taxes, finances, and insurance were handled, honestly. We've lived like we did before.
