So I've been a bit curious about this Prepar3D stuff.. So I go to their main website:

Prepar3D

And I go to the Experience page which has screens and videos of their product. I click on the first video and am amazed at the two minute compilation they've put together...amazed that they would actually use that as a promo. I mean, the premise of their software is that is is cutting edge training stuff. Visually advanced, high fidelity for training in the real world.

Uh..you guys might want to recut your video. The whole video is of crappy 3D model airplanes flying over crappy scenery doing things that no real world operators would do (buzzing in an F-22..etc..) all at choppy framerates just to round out the crapiness.

Wow. They need to hire a professional in marketing - and Glowing Amraam to do their promo videos.

Here it is on YouTube (same video):

screwy

Hehe yeah that video is pretty lame... since they are a defense contractor maybe they applied the typical dog and pony shock and awe show technique here.

I've seen a couple of good Prepar3d videos on youtube that look promising running the typical addons most of us use in FSX to make it look good, apparently the framerate is much more consistent in Prepar3d compared to FSX but I'm waiting until they have more major improvements (DirectX11 or SLI/Crossfire support) before I check it out.

I'm hopeful but prepar3d to be disappointed haha.

Prepar3D looks better than anything I've seen in terms of simulators for the military.

The shooting range simulators look worse than late 90s computer games and the tank simulators could be straight out of the early 90s. Awful!

LOL! And they want how much for it? The world's most expensive patch!

Hey! Come on! You're Lockheed Martin! Show us your stuff! There's better freeware out there than that. And don't even get me started on X-Plane 10.

Now, that having been said, man up Sikorsky, Bell/Textron, et al. Where's the world's most advanced rotary aviation training software? I'll give you five hundred bucks for that!

As for the military's sims, HURL! The last time I owned a copy of the Navy's Primary Flight software, which I weaseled out of somebody at CNATRA, I was appalled.

It would have been something back in the days of FS98. Surely the Navy can do better than that?

Cheers!
