I probably know the answer, but will try to see if I am doing something wrong. I had to do a new install on a computer that was running Vista and EAW was wroking, the new install is Windows 7 Home Edition with the latest video drivers.

I copied the 4 files into the main folder and "ran as admin". The game startes and the menus come up. When I hit fly I get the message that the screen resolution is too high and to use something smaller. I have changed the resolution several times all the way down to 640 X 480 and still gets the same message.


The card I have is a GTX8800.

Is there a fix or is my driver to new?

If you go to the Game Set-up page, and the graphics section, what is the chosen graphics system, Software, Direct3d or Glide?

It is on Direct3d. I can not change it.

I just looked in the source code and that error is only produced in one situation.
My guess is that somehow the video card is not communicating with EAW, because you should be able to run in 1024x768 and othe common resolutions.
I generated the same error on my laptop by deliberately setting 2400x1800 which the video card does not support.However, there is no problem with the standard resolutions up to 1920x1080.
It might be worth trying the glide wrapper or the d3d windower.

I have loded your latest 1.28E control selector. When I click on the icon I get the errror message that the "comdlg32.ocx is not there or registered.

Is that part of the netFrame install? Or is there something else to do to get it to work?

I assume you mean OAW and not the DirSet Picker.
Included in the OAW download is a folder containing the VB runtime files.

You need to install them.

I ran the VB6 runtime before but it must not have taken the registry.

Still trying to get it to work. I have been messing around and it seems that some things effect the game. some skins, the campaign that I like stops the game from working.

Also I now have the cursor arrow in the middle of the screen. Is there a way to get rid of it? I can work around the others but would now like to at least rid the arrow.

I really apreciate the help, it has been a few years since I have flown the game and worked on it. This was my first flight sim and have always loved to fly it.

If you launch from OAW/DirsetPicker or from a desktop shortcut you should not get the arrow cursor.

A update for future viewers.

The cursor appears when you click the short cut on desktop. I can run the exe from the main folder "as administrator" and the cursor is gone. The cursor does not appear also if, as you said, if you start the game from the DirSet or the OAW selector.

So I will use the OAW Select form now on.

It does not appear in my case if I move the shortcut to the taskbar and launch it from there
