I know we have several members who are avid collectors of watches, and my father was lucky enough to recently come into possession (through the family) of his grandfather's pocket watch.

It's an International Watch Co. Schaffenhausen model, and seems quite plain compared to many of their offerings. The case is plain and silver in colour. I apologise for the image quality, my dad isn't the photographer in the family wink

My great-grandfather died in Vienna in 1974, so it's certain the watch pre-dates that. I couldn't find anything similar in hours of searching images online, but perhaps someone familiar with industry/collector resources might have greater knowledge.

It looks a bit like an IWC from the 40s or thereabouts. That was when they started with the straight Portuguese-style hands. Maybe a Calibre 97 movement. Can you open the caseback and read the details inscribed there?

Check this page: http://www.iwcforum.com/Articles/MFPocketWatches/text2.html

It looks similar in style to my IWC cal.83 wristwatch from the 40s or early 50s. There is an IWC forum at www.watchuseek.com , they're the most knowledgeable bunch around.

Here's my IWC
