It's pity that player is always assigned to first staffel, so getting always white identification numbers.

I edited my flight, which was second schwarm, changing in "Object" view its rank from 1st to 2nd. So I got a BLACK identification number!

This allows as well to customize liveries of mates, giving for instance an ace's one to flight leader. Would be nice for player having occasion to fly as wingman of some famous ace, but so far I never saw that.

BTW, I've contradictory info about Luftwaffe staffeln colors: second, according to source, is red or black: anyone has more reliable data?

For all I remember, red was used early in the war but was changed to black when the Luftwaffe took on fighting Russians, for fear of misidentification and friendly fire.
Btw, for changing color of the player's Staffel (and many other things) I recommend IL-2 MAT Manager

I'm just using that! It's a formidable tool: I wonder how they was able to put together all that historical stuff! It's awesome!

Now became an habit for me preparing mission also updating markings with the correct ones for its historical environment.

MAT Manager makes me wonder also about a lot of minor details, like late russian stars called Avirex: well, I know that as clothing company - What has to do with VVS war planes?

Wasn't Avirex the nick of the guy who made those stars for IL2 MAT Manager?

Yup, it was NN_Avirex, a famous IL2 skinner at that time, who made the skins for Me262 cockpit in IL2 (3D was by NN_Shane), and many skins for other planes (i think default P47 skin is by him too, at least it used his aluminium painting technique).

It seems that quite a few famous skinners have moved on to other things, like CanonUK and recently Capt Farrel, which is a great pity. Quality skins are getting rare.
