I guess I'm not sophisticated enough to appreciate the value of this photo. Dumbfounded.

Even from the perspective of an investment... How much return do you expect on something like this when YOU are the high water mark?

I think for a lot of these art collectors it has nothing to do with rate of return. It's all about hanging the photo or painting in their big house so they can show it off to their rich friends during parties and say "oh, look at what an amazing piece of art I just recently picked up!".

I understand that the computer doesn't really show that if you look at it and unfocus your eyes there are 3D naked women that suddenly appear.

And dogs playing cards.

Did anyone get the name of the winning bidder? I'd be happy to sell them one of my photos for half that price.

Considering the medium that was used to present it--acrylic glass, I don't believe we can fully appreciate it in digital form. Just gazing at it on my screen, I find a serene feeling falling upon me. Comforting of sorts, imagining the lazy flow of water past the whispy tufts of grass nicely balanced by a calm but dusty sky.

Yeah, I like art. Great photo in the very least. I bet the medium though adds a bit of reflectivity or other properties that only enhance it further. I particularly like the symmetry of the sidewalk in front of it and the dark bands of hill behind it, balancing out each side of the scene nicely.

Looks very uninteresting, plain, and linear to me.

Rather mundane and meaningless.

Well, it's interesting and nice that he found such a linearity in nature. While it's this linearity that makes it interesting, it also looks a bit dull and bleak, at least on my screen.

And no, I wouldn't pay $4.3 million for it.

I'd rather pay 4.3 million for Freycinet's album cover picture. I look at this one and wonder when the dead body's going to start floating by.

I'd rather go out and experience nature for myself. Take my own pics. I've been on some great adventures, in and out of the military.
