This pilot inspired me to try landing on a pitching deck:

Granted my conditions were not as bad as the above. Very cool that DCS simulates the pitching deck. A sign of things to come?? biggrin

If we could make them pitch like that you'd never be able to keep the helo on the deck when it landed. The Lynx in the real-world video has a 'harpoon' that stabs down into that central circle area on the deck to secure the helo in rough seas. See http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/lynx/ for more details.

I want to know which Russian decided that it would be a great idea to have a big solid post sticking up at the back of the helo deck on that frigate. That is the very opposite of genius.

My video was only 10 m/s (22 mph,36 km/h) and that was just about my personal limit. I have maybe 7 hours in BS2. I did manage to land with 12 m/s but it wasn't pretty. And my turbulence setting was generous- only 1 m/s.

The highest wind setting in BS2/A10 mission editor is 50/ms (112 mph,180 km/h!). I just looked at the ships under that setting. The frigate pitches enough that part of the stern dips underwater! But as teeps mentioned, even if I was a skilled BS2 pilot, I wouldn't be able to keep it from rolling off the deck. I landed with the brake on and was still sliding everywhere. Could be a software limitation as well. Fun times though!!

Oh well, that pitching is way to much yes. Just wanted to know what the maximum values are... biggrin
