Hi guys,
I bought Harpoon Ultimate Edition Download back in May of this year, I've been having a hell of a time setting it up on windows7 64bit. I assume not everything in the package is win-7 x64 compatible. My question is what part of the download shoud/can I install on win-7 x64. I have this game going back to DOS, so I'm an old Harpoon fan. I've been to Matrix's? forum but 'am still unsure on how to proceed. What part can I actually install on win-7 x64? Can any of you guys help me out with this?

I do not own Win7 -64bit. However, I have heard that everything should work with Win7. The only exception might be the H3.6.3 version. I say 'might' because some guys say that they run it, but I don't know if it is with -32 or -64 bit system. Also, the HCE Scenario Editor will not run with -64 bit systems.
Other than suggesting that you install with Administrator-level authority, nothing much comes to mind.
Can you elaborate on what problems or messages you are seeing? Hi Herman, I keep getting various errors, and two--can't remember which Harpoon3UltimateANW-- refuse to start. I am going to reinstall it again, going slowly, and see if i can get it right. There's also supposed to be a required patch 3.10x which I can't seem to find. Also, there is the problem of it asking me for a key. Well I paid for it and have my serial. Jaeger

Here are some folks who claim Win7 -64bit works: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2622561In order to get HUE 3.10 to work, you must install the 3.10.1a patch: ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon-UltimateEdition/Harpoon3UltimateANW-Update-v3101a.zipA beta (experimental) patch was also posted by AGSI (3.10.1.4) but it does not run. Do NOT install this beta crap. If you try to run this beta, it will show the symptoms you report (fail to start.) Please be more specific with each step you take. When dealing with Harpoon bugs and problems, there is no such thing as too much information. You are not insulting anyone's intelligence by reporting every minute detail encountered. I do not know when you are being asked for this serial number. At what step? All patches require s/n to open.

Hi Herman, so installed just HUCE and it says invalid serial. Bullshitt, I just checked my order at Plimus and I have the correct serial. Maybe I'm installing this thing backwards. There's more than one executables in the order.

Did you do a copy/paste for the serial number? Maybe you included an extra space or something.
I think most folks just tell the main program to install all four programs from the HUE bundle at the same time. It takes awhile, too.
1) H3 v3.6.3 2) ANW v3.9.4 3) HUE v3.10.0 4) HUCE

First time I've ever heard of a problem like that. Is your hard drive set up with any special partitions? Are you using the game default directory paths suggested? Is this all happening on your c:\ drive? or, are you installing somewhere else?

Are you unzipping everything out of the zip file first? Or, are you trying to run the installation program directly from within the zip file?
Just to get past this roadblock, are you willing and able to install it to your C: drive?

Just to get past this roadblock, are you willing and able to install it to your C: drive? No zips: these are all executables: I'll uninstall and see if using "C" will work. The "C" Drive is down to 21GBs Which is why I'm using drive "D". Same bad results with "Harpoon 3 ANW v394".

How far are you getting in the installation process? I am posting up a video showing the steps used thus far. I am at the point whereby the installer requests the s/n. Therefore, the serial number I used is valid. If you have also gotten to this point, your serial number must also be valid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vCHIdb8kukDid you manage to get to this point? When you uninstalled the game the first time, did you use the Uninstall function? Or, did you simply delete the file folders? If you install the game to one place and then re-install the game to another location, this might cause problems. It shouldn't, but I believe it has done so in the past.

But I also have these other files which i downloade legally at the same time. I have 1] HarpoonUltimate-SetupRelease-v100a PLUS 1] HarpoonUltimateCommandersEdition-v200905 2] HarpoonUltimateANW-SetupRelease-v3101 3] Harpoon3-SetupRelease-v363 4] Harpoon3ANW-UE-SetupRelease-v394 The "HarpoonUltimate-SetupRelease-v100a" zip does contains 5 files plus a readme text file. The unzipped folder looks like your YouTube video. I'm running it now. Jaeger

These four files in C:\Matrix Games\Harpoon Ultimate Edition are only temporary in nature and are used by the Installer. 1] HarpoonUltimateCommandersEdition-v200905 2] HarpoonUltimateANW-SetupRelease-v3101 3] Harpoon3-SetupRelease-v363 4] Harpoon3ANW-UE-SetupRelease-v394 The HUE installer programs (HarpoonUltimate-SetupRelease-v100a, -2, -3, -4, -5) will bring you up-to-date with all the files you need with the exception of this one: ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon-UltimateEdition/Harpoon3UltimateANW-Update-v3101a.zipThat is the only additional patch installer you need to run once you have the four different games installed. You do not need to individually run the four installation programs found in your C:\Matrix Games\Harpoon Ultimate Edition folder. Running HarpoonUltimate-SetupRelease-v100a.exe should be sufficient.

My pleasure. Always here to help. Hi Herman, Thanks a million for all of the tutorials. Man, how long did it take you to learn all of the "ins and outs"? Anyway I've got a lot of catching up to do. And thanks to you, my walk down memory lane will be fun. Jaeger

It took years because I'm not very smart. I'm just persistent and I stand on the shoulders of giants by reading and learning from them. Think of me as a guy who might clear or sweep a minefield by stamping his feet to do so. It's neither elegant nor pretty, but it is effective.
Everyone is always encouraged to write (or video-record) After Action Reports and share their own experiences. Seeing how others approach a tactical situation is educational for everyone involved; scenario writers and players, alike. Just letting scenario designers know that their work is played and enjoyed goes a long ways towards getting them to write more scenarios.
