Okay, so...why does the ground in those screenshots (in the OP) look so much awesomer than anything I've seen in the game?
Is that another mode/texture replacement, or...?

This makes a HUGE difference in the visual quality of IL-2. It's just...WOW. Nice work! I'd specifically been looking for a 'photoreal' ground texture replacement, too, and just hadn't found one. But, here ya go! Thanks!! (I think that really only leaves cockpit shadows as the final real immersion speedbump...)

Thanks, to be honest I like this package too It was heavily inspired by the excellent Slovakia and Bessarabia textures! But theres stuff I like even better (more photorealistic): Donbass, Zapolare by russian aviaskins team Westfront, Centermed maps by Gilb57 all included in UP3 + DBW combination

Hmmm. I've got UP3, but I've never tried DBW - we usually play online, and I understood that pack was for offline-only.

Those desert schemes are very nice. Is the desert Storch skin one that is included in your recent Storch pack or is it a new one? Wheels

Thanks! The desert Storch is a new skin, not in the Fi-156 pack @ m4t. Nowdays I mostly make generic skins for the SAS F. Big Default Skin Mod(FBDSM). I forgot to post but I made recently a patch for my stock map upgrade pack to be used with this skinmod (links at my site). New Blenheim generic skins for the FAF: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads2&file=details&id=6493Yesterday I also finished a mod default skinpack for RAF planes which will include BeaufighterMk10 HALIFAX-B-Mk3 HurricaneMkIId Magister Mosquito_FB_MkIINF Mosquito_FB_MkVICC SeaFuryMkI SeaFury_MkX TempestFBMkII TyphoonMkIB TyphoonMkIBLate Tiger Moth/U-2TM + A1J Skyraider Bf-110G-4 nightfighter Cheers

well, for example the Typhoon uses the Tempest fuselage + Hurricane wings, normal skins will not work for such plane, same for the A-1J, Tiger Moth, the rest uses already published skins (flightsimfiles & m4t) so this mod really doenst translates well into a bmp skinpack but I'll see what i can do...

Is there any way to add your Default Map Upgrade Pack to IL2 4.11 without any mods like UP3.0? I read the part where you mention that it hasn't been tested with 4.10 yet, but I'm willing to try it. I'm just getting back into IL2 after a loooong layoff, and making heads or tails out of all these mods is making me a bit dizzy. I've read guide after overly contrived guide, but really what I want is to improve the look of the game as much as possible without adding dozens of modded aircraft I'll never get around to seriously flying. Some of your screenshots look absolutely sick, I would love to add this to my game install. I've already added some of your other skins and it literally transforms the sim. I looked over the links you provided, but I haven't run across any info about installing over an unmodded game. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

A very simple way to enable your game to use mods, 4.11 version not yet released: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16371.0.htmlI did some testing with 4.10 after the quoted post, the map upgrade pack works fine. Thanks for your comments!

VP, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I really appreciate it, and your work! I did some reading and I guess I'll wait and see what SAS will do about 4.11 before I add it to my install. I'll probably create a 4.101 install just to see how it looks in the meantime though. I've added a bunch of your excellent skins, but I'm having the dilemma of how to use them with IL2 Mat Manager. Your skins often have full markings and unit insignias (which look incredible), but your default ones are clean. To have the detailed ones display properly in the sim I have to disable most of the unit markings from MM, but then I can't have unit markings on other default/generic aircraft in the mission. What to do, what to do. I know that you worked with SAS for the FBDSM, would that be a better option? But then I'd have to wait for 4.11 compatibility...

Please disregard my questions concerning your skins with Mat Manager... that was temporary stupidity on my part. Somehow I completely forgot that you can simply flip off the 'Markings' switch for that exact reason from inside the sim. This is what happens when you get tired...

Class files go directly under the /FILES/ directory, but I don't know if there are some that don't play well with others.

And thanks for that GREAT skin face-lift on those MOD aircraft. Some of them REALLY needed it!
Hope you eventually find time to do the same with some other un-skinnable frankenplanes as well!

Wow! Thank you very much for setting me on the path, my brudda! That was very cool of you man, really. I must say you've been very helpful, and of course, generous with your work. I'll be installing ver 3 of your Default Map Upgrade Pack and Improved Building Textures in no time! I wonder if you would know off the top of your head if your missions are compatible as well? Like this mission pack for Tunisia -> http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&screen=2187I would love to enable these for online co-op. I haven't messed with the mission builder in years though. Would something like that be feasible?

I'm glad that I could help. The missions were built using the stock version of the game so they're compatible with any game version. To make the missions coop compatible you need to open each in the FMB and decheck the 'Player' checkbox iirc (I play offline).

Again, thanks for the info fellas Vp, I successfully added that mod activator (black mod splash screen, game working), but I don't think I'm activating your scenery/building pack correctly. What I've done is place your '_VP_MAPMODS...' and '_VP_TEXTURES...' folders into my IL2 1946\MODS\ directory and attempted to enable them through JSGME. It appears to be activating the scenery mod for example, but in the game in a QMB mission I don't see any noticeable changes. I tried the Bessarabian, Normandy and MTO maps. I searched a bit, but couldn't find explicit install instructions for your mod through google. There were already some folders (MAPMODS, STS) inside the MODS folder when all the activator files were copied into my IL2 directory, but I left yours in the main MODS directory so JSGME could see them. I'm trying a few different things out with the hope of some success, is there a good map you can suggest that I load so I can tell immediately whether or not your scenery has been added properly?

jsgme isnt needed, all it does is to copy a folder back and forth. The correct path for example: ...MODS\_VP_MAPMODS_v3_2010\maps\ardennes\sload.ini Installing my mods is a simple file archive extraction, so I didnt add a readme for that + never had anyone reporting installl problem in the past 3-4 years so I assumed its ok. Oh I'm sure your mods are just fine with no instructions my friend. I became certain of that when I looked for instructions and didn't find any, I knew right then that they're a breeze for people that understand mods, so why would they need explaining? I'm the problem here, I haven't gotten my head around how all these mods work yet I have your folders in the place you've indicated, that's where I first extracted them. I think it's possible I may have to tweak that modact a bit further to get it to work. I've been reading some info about it on another post that was created after the link for the modact you gave me. I noticed some people were modifying the .rc file to get the appropriate objects to load for the mod maps they want to use in 4.11. in the example shown these lines were added to the .rc; @sfs MOUNT up_objects01.sfs @sfs MOUNT up_objects02.sfs @sfs MOUNT up_objects03.sfs @sfs MOUNT up_objects04.sfs These were for an SAS mod. There are also some lines that need to be added to the static.ini file as well from the look of it. I think that's the issue here, the modact gets no instruction to load your maps and objects. The problem is that I still have no idea how modacts typically 'activate' any given mod. I was under the impression that they load whatever is in the 'MODS' folder. I need to go back and read up on that more. I can't see the examples at the link you gave me yet cuz for some crazy reason they require registration. So I registered, but now I gotta wait for administrator approval Of course. I'm not defeated just yet. Sooner or later the switch in my head will flip on!

btw I'm using IL-2 1946 4.10 with UP3 and DBW so I cant tell if my mods work in 4.11
Normandy is a good map for testing, Bessarabia isnt

the link I gave you is the same site where you downloaded the 4.11 modact... I know, that's why it's so nutty that I now need to register. I've looked at all types of threads on that board with no issues before. Do you by chance know the location of the post/pics within the forum? Maybe I can just navigate there manually. I'll do my testing on Normandy.
