Shift 2, no trouble with 1, or any other games. This one's just a PITA to get right for some reason.

Trying to give this game another shot, but I can't get the wheel right. The cars are always all over the road at ridiculously low speeds. Nothing at all like any other racing games I usually play. I've tried a ton of settings but can't get it right.

Can anyone check their settings in the game and on the wheel and let me know what works out? This is just uncontrollable for some reason. I've also tried turning off letting the game adjust settings but it just seems even worse then.

I've tried 0 deadzone on wheel and pedals, but seems to make the oscillation worse.

Hello Raw Kryptonite, Do you suffer from the input lag or bad FFB? I don't have the G27 wheel, but I can point you to the forums at NoGrip. They have a controller setup thread where your wheel is talked about much. Also they have a great mod called the UCP (Unofficial Community Patch) which is at 1.06 now. It's a mod that is a collection from great modders. It handles all sorts of handling issues. Also there are some small handling mods like the PTMu and the minimod by Juls. The latter has its own dinput8.dll file which helps reduce controller input lag at lower frame rates. Juls said it's not necessary for Shift 2 sine it handles FFB butch better then shift 1, but people seem to get good results with it. Check it out and see if some of it can solve your problems.

I have read also that deactivating vsync and setting pre rendered frames at 0 in your video card setup will reduce input lag.

Good luck

I downloaded the UCP and PTMu mods, I'll give those a shot to see if it helps. Might try the no crowds/objects mod, but I hate to give those up.
Maybe these will help, this thing is almost undriveable, certainly unenjoyable. Watched the ISR review again, they mention this and that using a 360 controller runs just fine. No thanks!
Just haven't ever been happy with this game like the first, maybe the mods will fix that.

Do the in-game wheel settings look right to you?

Seems a little better, but something is still off. Ran all 3 mods.
Should I give up on the elite steering setting?

As far as I know elite setting is recommended. Be sure to have the DampeningEnabled set at "0" under </DeviceList> <Flags in the vehicleset_pc_logitech_g27_separatepedals.xml file under ControllerDefaults\PC. If it is not you got to do the following:

-Sellect an other controller in the game assign the contols and then save
-Leave the game
-Under properties of the xml file you have to untick read only
-open the xml file in notepad++ and change the DampeningEnabled setting and save the xlm file
-Make the xlm file read only again
-start op the game, select G27 under controller and set it up
-save with the shift button and enter
-If you get an warning that the settings wil be overwritten you did it right. Press enter again and try it out

Its needed to reselect your controller this way or the xml file will not be read by the game.

Hope it works for you. Adjusting the xml file and the effects it may have is subject of debate. Some claim it solved their problems, others screem "placebo!!" For me I'm not sure yet wacky There are many accounts of people who tinkered with settings and claim it had a good effect on the handling, and just as many who say it did nothing for them. It's very much trial and error at least.

In the readme of the minimod are some settings for the G25. you might want to try them out.

Good luck

Hey no problem. Hope it is of any use to you. Let me know how it worked out. You are right to try to make the game work. it has enough under the hood for lots of fun hours! Even with the dodgy FFB thumbsup

I haven't played Shift2 since I got my Fanatec GT2 (too many other good sims keeping me busy on PC and console), but here were my settings from the original SimHQ Shift2 thread back when I was playing it all the time using my G27 in case it helps:
