AMD 11.10 driver's been released. No tweaks mentioned for ROF but the sim's running perfectly with it and looks beautiful-as usual!!!

They mention stutter for crossfire issues resolved in a few titles. I hope that translates to an improvement for the RoF crossfireers too.

I just ran across something that could be just a total coincidence but I tried it three different times and I got the same result.

I have a 5970 installed in my machine and because I can't stand leaving things well enough alone, I had done a very minor overclock from the stock 725/1000 to 750/1050-yeah I know, not much! While I was piddling around resetting all the graphics goodies, I realized that since I installed the 5970 I had NEVER o'clocked the secondary GPU--only the primary GPU.

I matched them both at 750/1050 and cranked up ROF. I noticed a verrry slight, almost stutter when I looked around my aircraft so I tried something to see if it would be more noticable. I shot down a plane and went to its external view after it crashed and was burning and I had noticable stutters when I panned around the burning aircraft. I left the primary GPU at its slightly overclocked settiing and set the secondary GPU back to the factory clockspeeds and repeated the test-----smooth as glass!

I'm sure it's just a coincidence and probably total cr@p but I did it THREE times both ways and it repeated itself EVERY time. I can't begin to imagine what could cause this other than some kind of timing issue between the two GPUs. Go figure... screwy

At first I thought it was the new drivers because I've had smooth gameplay for a long time. After setting things back to the previous overclocking settings, it's all good again!

Edit Reason: It wasn't the drivers!!!

The 11.10's--- they were released yesterday.

They supposedly have some new Eyefinity goodness in them.

With 11.9 I discovered the morphological filtering box and checked it. This seemed to make a noticable difference to the clarity of the image and the sense of movement over the ground. I can't immediately see any gains with the new 11.10, but I suppose they could be there. I have become a real fan of AMD GPUs.

The issue might be on my end, but RoF keeps locking up on me, and when I when I Alt-Tab to desktop, I get a message saying the AMD drivers have stopped responding, but recovered.

This hasn't happened with FSX, or Take on Helicopters, but has happend within the first few min of each flight with RoF on several flights now. I'm running the 11.10 drivers on an AMD 6950 with the shaders (but not clocks) unlocked to 6970 spec. It's possible the shaders are the issue, but I want to see if others are having problems before I reset my Bios.

Hi, do you mind posting your settings for RoF?

Pretty much maxed and ultra-high for almost everything, with all post-process effects turned off.

Also, as an update, Skyrim also hard crashed with my VC, so I rolled back the Bios to stock 6950 spec. I'll update after more testing. For now I'll assume it was my card causing the issues.

Thanks, I'm still fiddling with mine- I like some of the effects such as rain and bloom, though.

You should be running special shadows. Common are only for the more recent nvidia cards, and I recall reading that even they can run special shadows now.

Interesting. I have my antialiasing on 4 and light sources on 20 also shadows on special high. Main difference is to have antialiasing on 4 not 8. Evething else on maximum except medium for grass and reflections and far for forest visibility. This is on a AMD 5770 with the new drivers.

If I could run at higher FX levels I don't think I'd choose antialiasing 8 over post processing. Can you even tell the difference from 4?

To each his own mind you, but at least try turning on the raindrops. Once you have them turned on I find I simply cannot fly without them. Very nice effect.

Made this post in the tech support section but it's kinda old so I copied it here...

Actually, I've had ROF CTD numerous times since I upgraded to the 11.10 drivers, something it literally hadn't done in ages.

The message I get every time is "ROF has stopped working" ( I think-hell it just happened half hr ago!!!) and the second part of the message is to click on-line to find a solution.

Everything runs smoothly, graphics look beautiful and bang-I'm at the desktop. Always happens near the end of a mission and of course after I've shot down a few planes...

Think I'll re-install the 11.9's as I didn't get any benefit from the newest set. Things have been running smoothly for the last couple of sets to include no Crossfire issues. Because of my system (i7 @ 3.5gig, 12 gig Tri-channel and a 5970) I'm not expecting any performance increases, maybe just some better visuals. Everythings cranked to max except AA and it's set to Adaptive multi-sample AA, Morphological Filtering and 4X AA. Looks beautiful, smooth as glass-gotta quit screwin' with it!!!

Hmmm, just had a thought---I wonder if it could be an issue in the ATI Catalyst Application Profiles.... Maybe I'll roll back to the last version before dumping the drivers.

Been testing for a while after removing the newest application profiles and I haven't had a CTD-----yet! I'll keep testing.

As a heads up, I've spent very little time tweaking this title to my new card. And I'm not really familer with the tuning ins and outs of RoF, so don't take my settings as gospil for 6950 owners.

I thought I read somewhere that AA and Post process effects don't play nice together in this title, so that's why I disabled all of them.

PS: we REALLY need a sticky in this forum dedicated to settings tuning.
