Really disapointed the next game is online only. That means there will be no decent offline version of either of the two games. All the first needed was to be able to choose allied flights aswell in the quick battle option. Why that was beyond them I've no idea.

Online only? Is there a mission editor? If there is a mission editor, there will be offline play. I could care less what the release has as long as the community can make whatever.

Online only can only mean that there will be no AI coding done. So unless the editor also allows you to build the opponent AI, you will have nothing but bombing and site seeing missions to build.
I don't why they can't include the AI from the previous version. Oh, well. I don't need another FPS game.

Since when does Online Only mean "no AI" or "no NPCs"? Maybe they will include co-op rooms? Jesus, get a grip with the #%&*$# doomsaying people.

From the Russian forum (translated by Google, not verbatim here): there will be a mission editor which will come with a Premium account. So the main game will be free and also subscription free, with Premium you have quicker access to airplanes, Single player content and the Mission editor. User generated missions can be sold by the players on the platform.

So you have to pay extra again to play single player (Premium account sounds like it)...erm no thanks. Surely it should be a one off payment for SP only and a sub for MP. makes more sense to me.

Sounds more like you pay once for a premium account where you can buy stuff instead of unlocking by grinding as the main game is free. The obvious benefit with this approach is that because the game itself is free-to-play the playerbase with be magnitudes larger than it ever could hope to be if it was traditional pay-once singleplayer or subscription-only multiplayer affair. We tried both approaches with the MMO arcade golf game I worked on at my previous job. It had in-app purchase items in it from the get-go, and at launch I think it cost $3, and downloads were in the low hundreds/day. Then we tried releasing it play for free, and found out that not only did our downloads increase by some 25 times, but we also made more money on in-app purchases alone than we did on selling the game for $3.
So like it or not, that businessmodel is here to stay.

Sold? Someone thinks they can sell user generated missions? I don't think will go over too well. Most mission builders seem to enjoy just letting other people play their missions. I guess it depends on how much premium accounts are going to be. As long as it is in line with normal game prices ($50-$60USD), that would be ok with me.

I don't see too many sales of user generated missions. The quality of several of them leaves a lot to be desired. It's one thing to fly a lousy user made mission that you got for free but add money to the equation and my expectations climb drastically. I definitely won't be the first one in line to try them out.

Well I think that most user generated missions would be made available for free by the ones who have made them anyway. It may be a nice incentive though to those who set out to build great and complex missions that they have the option of asking for something in return. I have no doubt there would be some kind of rating such missions so the community itself would determine whether or not something would be worth a dime.

IIRC, there's more than the 1 game in development. I know there's one for the 360, possibly one for pc in addition to the MMO.

MAC True, but who is going to be the guinea pig and buy it before anyone has a chance to rate it? It ends up being a catch-22 situation where no one will buy it because it hasn't been rated but to get rated someone has to buy it. A campaign with several user made missions included might have a chance if the mission builder has a free mini version that a player can demo but a single mission someone is trying to sell will not have that luxury. Another problem is most people won't take the time to rate it after they play it. We have downloads at M4T with thousands of actual downloads and less than 10 ratings and comments on those downloads. No matter how many times they have been downloaded most of the downloads have no comments or ratings at all. I am using M4T as my example but everywhere I have downloaded files the situation has been the same regarding comments and ratings. The aberration in this situation is for someone to comment or rate the download not the opposite. Wheels

When does that ever happen, though? I mean if it were true then we should never have seen the massive proliferation of MSFS payware or defacto payware missions like YAP and Rising Sun. If it is priced cheap enough, people will buy anything.

If there is a mission builder in the game, within the $50-$60 range, I'll buy the game regardless. I can make my own missions and keep myself entertained with that. Just imagine the difference if WoP had a mission builder.

Seriously? World of Planes will be online only...? You sure they don't mean you have to connect to their server like RoF was initially? (You see they changed that too... ) Hmmm seems like they are really trying hard to screw this up royally..

Yeah, I'm kinda having trouble seeing the confusion too. Nah, they're just grumpy old 90's simmers who need to complain about anything just because the game isn't IL-2:1946 with prettier graphics.

Well if you recall the plans to beef up WoP were scratched for WoP .. but the concerns in WoP were very real and very well documented..and since they will obviously not be supporting both products myself like some of the other "old 90s simmers who need something to complain about.." figured that perhaps they would at least make good in their statements.. MMO is not for everyone.. we all didn't come from the FA/AH/WB communities that some of the folks in here came from.. I find that being in a server with 60+ planes becomes kind of problematic anyway.. especially when you have so many ahistoric lone wolves ... but that's my experience. Regardless to what some of you may think, not addressing the offline possibilities is IMO a shortsighted mistake that will alienate a large group of folks unnecessarily.. YOU guys may be happy but I guarantee you that there will be lost sales over this fact.. and hopefully they will come to their senses with some kind of offline possibilities.

Games are something you buy once for $60 and play on your own, just like in the good old 90's. Why did they have to change things. Why did they have to destroy the sim hobby. I will vote with my wallet and not buy this free game I tell you!

omg LOL well EF, for your information there was nothing wrong with the 90s Maybe you were born that decade?? I really look forward to see this title come alive, and beeing an "online flyer only" the fact that it will not support any offline solo gaming is not a biggy for me. However, we all have different taste, and I know that there are many who love/loved to fly a well designed solo dynamic campaign. There is nothing wrong to feel sad that this title will not support these wishes. Then again we have no clue either if it will be a success as an MMO either ..until it's released. 2 cents

omg LOL well EF, for your information there was nothing wrong with the 90s Maybe you were born that decade?? Nah, I was born in 81 so I grew up with sims from F-15 Strike Eagle and Ace on C-64 all the way through the classic 90's sims. Still I realize that one cannot turn back the clock to the good old days so I tend to go with the changing times and try to make the best of them. Well the problem is that few games have ever gotten the solo dynamic campaign right, and the one that did (F4) killed like 3 different developers before it finally came out. Even then it took years before it evolved into something really good. However Il-2:1946 and Il-2 CloD aren't going anywhere fast so I'd rather have diversity than everybody doing their own thing.

I hear ya I guess I am blessed with the fact that I don't pine for an offline sim even though I feel for those who do. No shame in preying for something you want. Myself, I want great online experience. Flying for a decade with IL2 would have never been possible if I only flew offline, it is multiplayer that does it for me, to hang out and fly with my fellow squad mates. Now I couldn't agree more about C(l)oD. As "she" is now she is just a great looking high maintenance (HUGE demands on hardware) gal; great to look at but very little substance. Beside the fact that I can't run her decent enough on MY hardware, she has very little to offer in terms on flyable planes, different theatres of war etc: IL2 has really set the standard for me in those terms. That is why .. for me, this title look very promising; as you said - it is coming fast as it is built on an already built sim (which I have but again.. bad multiplayer ni WoP), lots of flyables, lots a possible theatres of war.... YES I DO hope this may be the well earned heir to IL2.. if CloD can't be it... But for me, they have to deliver some things for me to take the plunge; realistic FM/DM (better than that WoP) different theatres of war, they don't forget bombers (cockpits) and yes... bigger maps than in WoP... dont demand CRAYcomputers to run it. etc etc amongst many many things:D So I keep hoping

As far as this game being some sort of heir to Il-2 - If you really hope for that you're probably going to end up disappointed IMO. All signs point towards Gaijin doing "sim-lite" games and I don't think this will be any different. As for me I'm quite content with something like Ace Combat-type game with more realistic physics and combat, given that this kind of "in-between" doesn't really exist in the market.

I am really not understanding the reasoning behind these Russian game coders pushing for this online only stuff. Things like World of Warplanes, World of Tanks, World of Planes, etc... they just have ZERO substance to them and apparently no real life beyond the micro-transactions that end up being necessary to play and have a good experience. Whatever happened to selling an outstanding game that was COMPLETED with a minimum of bugs and a realistic ability to get enjoyment out of the game WHILE not having to potentially spend hundreds of dollars on the game to get said enjoyment.

Online is the way forward I admit, but I am too old to adapt or be interested in playing with 12 year olds or whoever. Also I thought that the games I have played online had a fantastic single player experience (battlezone, Half-Life, Quake 2) that primed me for wanting to play online...that may be a mistake for the developers to overlook!.

I dont think this is going to be free. I for one have Never heard them say the game will be free. I think that you will buy the game just like any other and then there will be No monthly MMO fee to play from there on out.
If there has been new information on this that I dont know of then please fill me in.
