I want to. I just haven't found the time yet to figure out how to get your flight to take off, cover, break off and return to base. I know it can be done but I'm just not there yet.

If somebody wants to accelerate the process then please make a mission where a flight does just that ...
1. Takes off from an airfield
2. Meets up with an escorted flight
3. Escorts the flight for awhile.
4. Disengages.
5. Returns to its base and lands.

I honestly spend more time trying to learn the ins and outs of the mission generator than I do writing code. Anything that accelerates that process is hugely helpful. All I need is an example to illustrate the mechanics and I can do the coding from there.

P.S. I have been getting some nice assistance from 777 and Bob V. lately and it is helping with 10.1 development.

P.P.S. No guesses or verbal explanations please - send me a mission file!

P.P.P.S. Yes, I will endeavor to get Bandy's and Elefant's posts pasted into a document

Does anybody use the campaign generator to fly recon or bomber careers? How about Brisfit careers (they are under recon but they do all types of missions). Just curious as to how widely used this is.

I use the Biff but I set the preferences so it flies all scout missions.

Great idea HT, hadn't thought of that! I know what my next PW career will be now!

Pat, I am not familiar enough with the Mission Editor to create example missions of the balloon defense and escort mission types. I need to spend some time on that to learn it.

In the meantime, is it possible that some of the canned mission scenarios that come with the game would serve? Looking at the Missions for the Albatros D.III, I see it has one, "Call from the frontline", that is a takeoff and then defend a balloon mission.

Similarly, for the Albatros D.Va, there is one called "Observation escort", which requires a takeoff and the mission is to escort a DFW. The Camel also has an escort mission. The Sopwith Pup has a balloon protection one as well.

I'm just scratching for ideas to help here.

It looks like it is just me, but when coming home from a mission my AI planes land heading towards the airfield buildings and crash into them. Is there a setting I missed? In CareerB they land away from the airfield buildings. Here is one condition: Nieuport 11 of Esc 12 stationed at Rosnay
Love everything else.

It's not just you. I am getting this too with No. 56 squadron flying SE5a's out of Bertangles 8 aerodrome. Fortunately, the pilots are not being recorded as killed when I tally the mission results via Automatic AAR.

In the beta Career, I see a problem with airplanes crashing into trees at the far end of runways. There is a general AI problem with landing. You may have also noticed they do not take off or land appropriately in relation to the wind direction. My AI buddies crashing into buildings as mentioned above were landing with the wind at their backs!

Thanks for the insights. I haven't noticed that they don't die -- just starting out with the ROFCampaign. But, I am practiced at suspending my disbelief, got plenty of practice with movies. biggrin

I just gave 10.1 to Jason for posting on RoF forums. I will post on CombatAce once I figure out how to do an update instead of a new upload. The CombatAce forum uses the same software as WoH and I do not want to get into the 8 copies posted mode again. I'll post a link when I have one.

Notes are below but the changes are way bigger than the notes indicate. I have more in mind but this was worth releasing.

V10.1
- Performance enhancements: late activation
- Improved ground attack and bombing missions
- Created RoFCampaign.rtf with install and AAR instructions
- Thanks to Bandy and Elefant
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed wind sock (again)
