Not seen this mentioned already, and as this is the 'non-sims graveyard' I thought I'd share here.
Hard Reset is an indie produced First Person Shooter that keeps it simple and spectacular. It's in the vein of Rage / Serious Sam style play, as in 'Shoot First, Never Formulate a Question' type of gameplay. It's a lot of fun and some of the boss battles and gun upgrades are outrageously over the top.
A lot of games miss out on the 'fun factor' but I'm liking this one so far. System spec wise it's ran great on my Q6600/4890, so I don't think it's a resource eater particularly.
Recommended for those who can turn off at least half their brain and let the destruction rein free..
Never Trust a Robot
Glowing Balls
I know this, it's a Windows 8 system!
Often kills are made through the environment - yay barrels!
Scary boss guy

That would look good if I were about nine years old Come on Frog, really? What attracts you to this game ... the flashing lights or the monsters? ROTFL!

I play a lot of different games, as I like a lot of different types of games. Besides, I thought you only hated stuff if Magnum posts it - lol..
The graphic's aren't bad, and as I said a few times, the genre is simplistic but what it is. You could name any game you love to bits and I could take it apart critically, but then where's the fun in that..

I couldn't care less what you do in your spare time but if you post stuff like this on the SimHQ forums, I'm going to be pretty critical (that’s what forums are for no?).
I've been visiting SimHQ since 1999 and I'd prefer to keep fantasy oriented stuff out of the neighbourhood

Great feedback - enjoy your stay.

I've got no problem w/ the "fantasy" stuff myself. Looks like a good time waster.
I've been spending an enormous amount of time playin' Dawn of War myself, and Warhammer is about as "fantasy" as you can get.

Yep, as much as I was teasing D-D (who I've just checked stats on, and I out-rank him in RO2, so he's really just a soft-core gamer at heart.. lol) this is only the screenshot dumping area. I don't mean to water-down SimHQ with ponies and fluffy elfs etc.
I recently played Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - it's pretty good, have you tried it? The DoW II stuff I didn't stick with, as it went DLC crazy but it was a solid game.

Like I've said, I couldn't care less about what you guys spend your (seemingly endless) spare time on. Over the past ten or so years, SimHQ has been more about simulations than about fantasy stuff like Hard Reset, World of Warcraft, Skyrim and whatever other fantasy games you've mentioned that I've never heard of.
I'm not telling you to stop having fun with your games though

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you Mr D. The only real difference between us is that I think it's ok just to skip screenshot threads that don't interest you, while you make a point that you don't like em - that's fair enough.
Besides, I've played or am playing pretty much every other sim on this site, so what's the harm
PS The sims stuff is my spare time, it's just it's not the only games I play..

Ok, this is the third time I'll have to say it ... I couldn't care less about what you do in your spare time. When I see a subject line like "Hard Reset", of course I'm going to look at it because it sounds interesting and I have no idea what you're talking about
I wish I had an endless amount of free time. I actually get up an hour (or three) early every day now while everyone else is sleepin' just so I can do what I want w/o interruption. I spend most of my time w/ IL-2, but I still look forward to playin' games like Metro 2033 and Dawn of War. I guess that part of me will never grow up...

Oh, and I played the demo for Space Marine and I do plan to pick it up whenever it goes on sale. I'll never pay more than $30 for a video game. I would gladly spend $50 on a complete (non beta) flight simulator, but that's for another discussion...

Yeah, good call - it's not worth full price but it has some nice moments if you like the setting.
As for the fun vs sim vs grown-up stuff, I don't stress it anymore - Just because I can cold start a DCS Ka50 or A10C, or a BMS F16C or umpteen other WWI/WWII aircraft doesn't mean much different to me than playing any other dumb game. It's all pretend

While I'm not into games like Hard Reset or Warhammer or whatever, it doesn't bother me that other people like them or post screenshots. There was a time when I enjoyed games like Hard Reset (Unreal Tournament comes to mind). Now, I stick mostly with military shooters, sports games and racing games.
But, really, some folks need to lighten up. There a hundred threads on this site that don't interest me. I don't spend time posting in them to voice my displeasure. I simply ignore them. You know, like an adult.

I've been keeping an eye on this, the lack of multiplayer has kept me from purchasing it so far but the screens look cool so I'll have to check it out sometime, thanks for the screens.
I can't believe someone is moaning about this. I mean how much of your time is really wasted by clicking the post seeing you dont like and clicking either the back button or the sim hq forum link, not much.
Put whatever you like up. Many people have a wide variety of games they play be it sims or FPS or wargames etc etc.
If your going to moan about this then why does Sim HQ forum have an RTS section and a tactical section which is more or less and FPS.
I suppose he's never scrolled towards the bottom of the page because it would waste his oh so precious time.
Sim HQ forums cover far more than just sims. I'm very suprised you've been coming here since 1999 and never noticed. Also how come it took you 10 years to register?
ELitism and snobbery isn't a pleasent trait to have.
You have no right at all to tell people what they can and can not post on here. Sorry.

Wodin, I assume you’re trying to communicate with me?
SimHQ has a Real Time Strategy forum and a Land & Armor Combat section because they contain forums discussing simulations.
I know I don’t have the right to tell people what they can and can’t post here, but I think I have the right to free speech on a public forum and therefore to disagree about something.
My point is that fantasy isn’t simulation. IMO, fantasy has no place at SimHQ. If you want to talk about fantasy games, go to FantasyHQ or something.
Free speech doesn't apply here, this is not a public forum. It's a forum open to the public to join. There is a difference. Going out of your way to be negative in a screenshot forum, of all things, is just putting an effort into being a pain in the backside for no reason other than your own entertainment. Look at it this way: at least it's a pc game and not a console title, you can expend less energy blindly hating it.
On topic: That game isn't up my alley, but I do like the atmosphere. Might be worth it on a good Steam sale. How's the story?

Story is fairly awful RK, in that it's sort of like Deux Ex written by a grade 12 essay competition winner. It might be better than that but I just kept clicking 'next' a lot.
It's basically a 'upgrade gun to explode huge robots in a massive fireball of electricity' simulator. You can apply real-world tactics to it though..
Edit: Is sci-fi considered fantasy? It is usually close in the book store I guess. What about Gears of War, is that bad too?
Edited by FearlessFrog (10/23/1105:30 PM) Edit Reason: Sci-Fi?

Isn't playing soldier pretty much a fantasy too? I mean I'm just as much a fighter pilot as I am a space marine, yet I can be both in video games. Sounds like fantasy to me.
I don't care what games are popular here or what is a "sim" and what is a "game". There's nothing anyone plays here that is a true "sim". Playing soldier in ArmAII by clicking a mouse and pushing buttons on a keyboard is hardly simulating what a soldier goes through.
And I don't care what the start-up procedures are on a helicopter or airplane. Essentially these are ALL GAMES. Period.
So, DD, please, just get OVER yourself. Or at the very least don't be a hypocrate and tell Magnum not to post pics or vids of Gears of War. Let's see how far you get with THAT suggestion.
If sci-fi shooter screens aren't your thing then just feel free to move along. There's no point in going negative on it.
Jeevz is right. This is ALL fantasy. We're just a bunch of grown men playing G.I. Joe, Chuck Yeager and Buzz Lightyear.

I so like those glowing balls. Not very simulation like , but they are ever so pretty.
Anyone remember that old ps1 (i think)from the 1900 hundreds, was a top on view 3d type , you had two islands..baddy and goody robots. You basically built up defences and kept the baddy robots away while you built up yours and then shipped them off to his side to take over his island, then moved to the next island, which of course was a wee bit stronger.Would like to see if there is pc version of it for some mindless shoot em up fun.Of course i will post pics too if that is ok..with everyone.
