It's official, I'm becoming a lot less resilient to advertisment pressure than I used to be. I used to think mobile phones should only br forr making calls on the go and nothing else, but here I am noe struggling to type this on my brand.new Samsung Galaxy S 2...

Any fellow Droid users in here ? Any good apps recommendations ?

Cheers

Nico

edit : damn touchscreen...

Agreed on your additional comment! I'm in IT and I hate phones, touchscreens, and 3D biggrin.

I own the Samsung Galaxy S2 (or GT-i9100) too. SGS2 for short.

The 2.3.4 update massively improved the speed at which the location fixation is resolved on GPS. Text input was reset on "tapping" to autocorrect, which frustrated me no end, that I almost rooted to CyanogenMod. Found the settings in the end.

VonBarb, try swyping. It does a good job for text input. I tend to swype with the pink of my right hand.

Wow, thanks for the list JAMF ! All this Droid talk is really still Chinese for me, but I'm getting better every day. I've already added a couple useful apps such as unit converter, clock, calculator, etc... Will try someof those you listed. I'm looking for something that'll give me a ring tone for text messages everytime, which the phone doesn't seem to be able to do for some reason...

Cheers

Nico

Thanks a lot for the GO Launcher recommendation : best update to my Droid so far ! Now I've got GO SMS as my default texting app and it is far superior to the default one. The new options it adds are wonderful as well. Top notch stuff !

Cheers

Nico

My wife got us some Samsung Galaxy phones not long ago. Somewhat lousy as a phone IMO, other than a good speakerphone. Just too much trouble to make a quick call, but since I hate using phones anyway, it's nice to have a fun gadget to take around. Still want a good solution for toting it. Unlike my last phones, it's too large and delicate to just drop in my pocket.
For typing, get a cheap stylus. We got these. Cheap but works just fine:

I have a Droid X and a must have is Google Music. I have about 40Gb of MP3 music uploaded to Google music and stream it to my phone and my wife's phone anytime I want. It's a PITA to upload it, but once it's done, Google streams it without any hiccups on the road or here at home flawlessly.

I mostly use the car related stuff:

- Open GPS Tracker
- Fuel Log
- DailyRoads Voyager
- GPS Status

Tip: in "Maps", there is the Google Labs tab. Pick the download maps option. It allows you to download 10 maps of 10-by-10 miles. If you want to reduce the bandwidth, when you have limited data plan, it's useful to preload the area you will be visiting when you have wifi access.

JAMF, quite a list!

One app I didn't see, but may have missed, is Tunein Radio Pro. 1,000's of radio stations available, both live and podcast. I love it for the talk stations, but encompasses all genres.

LOL I hear you guys I waited a while to finally get an iPhone but I'm glad I did. Its a useful device that serves many uses and can provide entertainment. I used to not read in bed because the light on bugged my wife. Now I have a color screen and kindle app and have read tons of books in recent months. I have a bike computer app that tracks my ride stats and the itunes provides music to my bike trailer speakers so my 15mo daughter can listen to death metal on bike rides LOL!

Hell, theres even a pretty decent Remote desktop app that allows me to access my home PC over a 3G network if need be and is insanely functional. That's just the tip of the berg. Droid does more more with more open architecture.
