Cool. Tom Curtis just called and landed at MSP about 20mn ago, jumped in a rental car and will be here around 6pm. Cameron
Called earlier and was having flight problems, he decided to drive up to Jacksonville to catch a straight through flight that
get him to MSP about 8pm. So he will get here around 10:30 to 11pm.

Was a great weekend, Cameron did not show up till 2:30am Friday night. He brought along a surprise visitor and
swore me to secrecy. X-Plane 10 will be revealed at FS Weekend in Amsterdam
on Novemebr 5th & 6th. So revealing anything before this time would put these guys jobs on the line. All I can say is,
there is a lot of work to get done before this FS weekend and they were working hard on it while here visiting the
entire time. I can only show you pictures of X-Plane 9 from my computer. Video is still being edited to remove any
XP10 reference to protect them.

That's a nice looking setup you have there Jim. Question - can you or have you ever put the moving map on the other monitor?

My BFG GTX280 has dual DVI out-puts that can only clone the other. But I have heard of this done with certain plug-ins.
But with my set-up it would clone it to both. After using the living room TV for a monitor 2 years running. I am going
to buy another TV monitor little smaller, say 40" and use it as my full time monitor. My Vizio looks so much better then
my Dell 24" Ultrasharp.

Why don't SimHQ put some news or feature up about the coming X-Plane?

Lots of new material is appearing on their website, screenshots etc: http://www.x-plane.com/news/

As we saw from BS2 - sim developers are NOT good at marketing. We should help devs who are producing sims as this is SimHQ... at the moment the news seems dominated by Battlefield and Call of Duty MW or whatever it is knockitoff where is all the sim news?

Not for lack of trying. I've tried e-mailing them looking for some preview access and they aren't interested. I'm scratching my head over that one.

Thanks for that video RCSimulations, it's looking really good and I like the insight he was providing on the autogen scenery.

For me that was what has kept me from trying out XPlane so far, I've gotten used to FSX Orbx scenery which is annotated autogen based on sat imagery, which results in very realistic looking scenery in all the right places. Xplane so far reminds me more of UTX in FSX which is decent looking detailed scenery generally in the right places but not really accurate.

Hoping Xplane 10 will have that great looking scenery and at some point someone will do the annotation to make it realistic (the right things in the right places, besides airports).

I am interested in checking it out once it is released and otherwise I think the competition is a great thing.

I'd like to see more screenshots of aircraft models and 3D virtual cockpits. The scenery looks great, but if I'm still flying mostly awful aircraft models, I'll be disappointed.

X-Plane 9 survives on my hard drive through the work of others that I can install and enjoy. The default aircraft, with a few exceptions, are abysmal.

Have they done anything to upgrade Planemaker function?

Cheers!

X-Plane 10 will be released un-finished to the DVD burning shops like Austin has already mentioned.
Its just a matter of installing X-Plane 10 and then use the updater for any of the latest fixes and
or add-ons. Not unlike X-plane 9 when it was released. This might turn off many potential buyers but
those who have been X-plane users for years, this is just the way it works. Actually I believe the
DVD`s are already going to press as I type. To meet the Christmas deadline they would have to.

I don`t plan on getting rid of X-Plane 9 on my HD anytime soon even after buying 10. Just like Black
Shark. I bought Black Shark 2 and have them both. The more the better. I have always been a fan of
photoreal scenery within X-plane and have over 360gb of it on my HD for 9x. Until 10x can handle that
scenery, I plan to change nothing.

Wow. The videos and images on the x-plane 10 site look pretty good. Much better than stock FSX. I may have to check it out when it's released.

Looks like update 3 is out:

Quote:

X-Plane 10.03 Beta 1

Aircraft

Forward-no-panel views now never show random parts of the airplane. This may help some users with performance in that view.
Fixed a number of rendering bugs with HDR mode and weapons, including weapons with missing or pixelated fuselages.
Steerable landing light goes in the right direction.
Fix for v9 aircraft crashing when saved in v10 format.
Fixed needle deflection generic instrument to actually deflect.

Updater

When this beta is updated to the next, restarting X-Plane on Mac/Lin won't fail with a UDP socket error.
Web update URL fixed - this may help with some ISPs.

General Data

Updated Nav and Airport database to 2011.13 to correct problems with incorrect/impossible controller comm frequencies e.g.(109.60)

Scenery/Rendering

V9 DSF roads with duplicate points will load correctly.
Fixed black spots in KSEA demo area.
Stars dimmed slightly.

ATC

Fixed issue where going to some remote untowered airports would cause the AI aircraft to spawn and be destroyed repeatedly.
ATC now continues to function even in special situations e.g.(Tow/Shuttle/Carrier etc.)
Fixed several smaller stability issues related to active zones.
Fixed broken runway phrase during takeoff/landing clearances.
ATC now properly stops running when the sim is paused, in replay mode or in a modal dialog.

Running the Xplane 10 Updater to download it now... hopeful for the performance fixes.

duh After waiting for disk 1 to finish (over 25 minutes), I started looking around for people having slow install times.
Then I saw the message on the x-plane site saying not to use the installer that comes with the install disks. ??really?? WTF?

Relax guys, this is comes from a veteran of X-plane. Use the newest installer from from
X-plane to install all your disks and keep using the latest installer as they keep updating
from this point on.

Still awaiting my disks after ordering on Nov. 24th the day the demo was released. And think
about unpacking close to 70gb of double sided dvd`s this will take time. Heard of of 4 hour times
already. XP9 took me close to 3 hours for 76gb.

Goblin,

You make that landing look too easy! Awesome carrier with the rotating radar.

Ha, thanks. What you don't see in that video, is me going around about 5 times before getting on board!

It is interesting that the terrain isn't larger than XP9. This would suggest that the improvements are with the auto-generation and the low-altitude textures...

I really like the replay feature and the different camera options! Last night I made a landing in the Barron with a cross wind and I spent twice as much time going through the replay watching my approach and landing from different perspectives as I did actually flying.

Historically probably the best feature of X-Plane in all versions compared to the rather stunted Microsoft replay feature.
