I'm not really big into the zombie genre but I've heard great things about this show. What makes it so good?

I'm not big on the zombie movie/game thing either, other than Zombieland--which is just plain funny. This one is a big exception to the usual zombie deal. It's what I wanted Fallen Skies to be more like, actually. Not so much about the zombies, but the survivors. Completely different, you feel sorry for the zombies as victims most of the time. They don't rely on darkness to be creepy either, the majority of it is set during the daytime. It's more drama than horror. You'd like it.

Exactly. Its about the survivors...desperate to survive, yet clinging to whatever they have left, emotions...
Watched the pilot/first ep on Friday again...powerful stuff. The guy telling his kid to read his comics while he shoots out the window at zombies...I wouldnt dare offer spoilers, but yea, worth checking out even if you arent into the typical zombie movie, 'cause this one isnt typical.
Part of the appeal is that they did a good job of casting people who can do believable drama with an HD camera stuck in their faces!

I'm a massive zombie fan (we all should be so we know what to do when the apocalypse comes!) and can't wait to acquire it on Monday Just bought the Walking Dead novel yesterday entitled The Rise of the Governor which focuses on Philip Blake who becomes the Governor in the graphic novel. Apparently The Governor will appear in the show but not in this series as has been stated around the net, perhaps in series 3.

BTW, the blu-ray set is pretty cheap, even considering it's only 6 episodes.

Excellent! More gore it seems, but that kicks off the season I guess. The church crew was pretty creepy, not sure why they would be sitting there like that, but oh well. For a season 2 opener, which simply can't be as good as the pilot, I'd say they did a good job.
