When I tried to change a setting in Configuration menu,
(changed the take off spacing from default 30m to 25m, as one of my squadron's plane was always starting merged with the windsock pole).
After that I couldn't continue my Campaign...
I was getting an error message.
From then on I couldn't edit the .campaign file in any of the fresh Campaigns I created, without the same error occurring! sigh

I tried a different approach, editing the Aces file, no joy though... nope

PS: (checked the aces file in my pilot' Campaign folder and only one of the three new 'aces' is there, not yet activated according to my edit,
the other two though, (earlier activated ones) were not there!)

Any ideas?

Is this not randomize the first name to the last name? Open the firstnamesfrance.txt & lastnamefrance.txt try to change. Let say you have Guy Abney in your flight chance this Guy to Rene and Abney to Fonck.
I could be wrong here but I guess this TXT file does generate all the names.

Well, this is not my purpose.
I want to edit the already randomised generic pilots to real historic ones...
I did it and it worked once, but after changing a parameter in Configuration,
I got an error message and was never able to repeat such an edit again...
I think only Pat could answer this properly... sigh

Thank you anyway!

Has anyone got a more upto date Aces utility config file? If so can they put it up for download somewhere.

Thanks very much

Hi Elefant: modding the names should be as simple as opening the career file and editing them. If you are having a problem after a config change, try this ...

Rename your current RoFCampaign directory..
Reinstall RoFCampaign into a clean RoFCampaign directory..
Copy your campaign file to the new install.
Try editing names to see what happens.
Copy your user config file to the new install.
Try editing names to see what happens.

Need a little help getting up to speed, running your campaign. I have a couple questions I am sure you already answer somewhere in the other 106 pages..........I just can't find them. I'll make a short list in order of how I am suppose to start and ran the campaign. You can correct me when I am wrong.

1. start with the Jar file in RoFcampagin folder
2. select new, and create your pilot and pick Sqd. and time of entry into the war.
3. click mission tab and accept.
4. Now start the RoF main game and get to the main selection screen.
5. Click on missions and select your mission/then go fly mission.

Now this is where I'm lost......after ending mission, where do I find the after action reports? Do I have to close out the game to get to them? And do you have to open and close the game for each mission?

I sure I'm just missing a step here, and shutting the game down for each mission is not the case, so any help would be welcome.

You have to choose Automatic AAR.

Step 1:

Go to your startup file in the data folder:

[KEY = system]
debug_info = 0
gamelog = 1
keep_binary_log = 0
mission_text_log = 1
modes = 0
show_net_skins = 1
skin_dir = "graphics\Skins\"

Make sure the bolded line is set to zero if you're not playing a PW mission. (or you'll end up with 3,500 mision log files in your data folder, like me!).
You'll need to re-enable it if you want automatic mission reporting.

Step 2:

Open CG and go to Configuration -> Configuration Parameters: GUI.
Set the appropriate path for the CG to track your log files:
i.e. the data folder in your Rise of Flight main directory:

You are good to go now.
Play a mission and when finished open CG -> Continue
and select Automatic AAR,
then choose the mission you want to load, presumably the latest one and you will have track of what happened in your latest mission (kills, losses, awardings, aces involved, ect).

OK, can we get the PW install instructions (posted several times recently) and elephant's lovely explanation stickied or something??? Don't get me wrong, it really is great that more people are finding their way to Pat's campaign...

Installing Patrick Wilson's Campaign Mission Generator

Make sure Java is installed on your computer and for the correct operating system, i.e. there is a 64 bit version.
Download Link HERE.

Unzip Patrick Wilson's (PW) Campaign download and install the RoFCampaign folder only in your ...\Rise of Flight\ game folder. This PW folder is the one with the .jar file & data & campaign folders; Pat may be using nested folders now to track version number so get only the right folder into the game.

Make sure you set the correct path for the Auto Results Directory when you set up the first time. See Elephant's post just above.
On main PW screen go into Configuration\Advanced Config\Configuration Parameters:GUI and enter for the Mission Log File Directory the following:
for a 64 bit system C:\Program Files (x86)\Rise of Flight\data
or for 32 bit OS just C:\Program Files\Rise of Flight\data

Now in the RoF game file (don't look for it in the PW campaign data folder) ...\Rise of Flight\data\Startup.cfg scroll to near the bottom and ensure that mission_text_log = 1, edit with Notepad if necessary and save.

Make a desktop shortcut to the RoFCampaign.jar, or set this file as a default start up option in your OS, this opens PW's campaign GUI.
Don't expect the same level of GUI detail as the in-game 'Career Beta', Pat's missions are where it's at, and the ability to configure/scale the variables to your system.

That should be it for install. Start a new campaign with a new pilot, choose a squadron etc.

Click Generate a mission:
- RoFCampaign generates a mission in the RoF Missions directory in the form <pilot name>.mission

Leave PW's campaign GUI open, and start up Rise of Flight. Navigate to that mission and fly it. Once complete, accept the mission results.

Alt-tab out of RoF, or quit game, and go back into PW's campaign GUI, and select Automatic results. If you flew more than once, there may be more than one mission results to choose from and it isn't simple to figure out which is which, so beware, fly a PW mission and go right back to PW GUI to avoid confusion.

After you've 'uploaded' results into PW GUI, make sure you enter a report for the mission. I find it fun to go back and review past missions every now and then to keep in touch with my pilot, especially if you have several pilots on the go.

Go into the ...\Rise of Flight\data\ folder and delete old mission results files. Delete all similar files after MissionParserLog.txt with the same extension (.txt I think?).

Enjoy!

Hi Pat. Love the CG and very much appreciate all your work in creating it. The missions are excellent and I could only wish the beta Career would create similar missions.

I have a request: can you please provide a way to disable ALL airstarts so that we have to take off to fly each mission? It seems we always airstart for balloon defense and escort missions. I find it extremely disorienting to "wake up" mid flight and try to regain SA. I would think it should be very possible to fly either of these mission types with an airfield start. Escorted aircraft could begin the mission in air over our airfield. Balloons aren't going anywhere, so it seems reasonable that we can take off, fly to them, and then patrol the area to defend them for a time.

Thanks again for your outstanding work and I hope you'll consider this request!

I agree.

I have to cycle all my controls (pitch, roll, yaw, rad flaps, fuel mix) when I start a mission to get my HOTAS calibrated and doing this in flight is really clumsy.

Can't the loon protect and bomber escort missions start on the ground?

Not a deal breaker but certainly a bother.

Thanks!
