Im gonna have to goto the local "used game store" not EB its called 'Cool Stuff', and they were selling Kinects for like $60, so I might get one for headtracking and whatnot.

im actually about to tear my wheel apart again, the wire harness clamp is coming loose again, as the last race i just did my downshift paddle stopped working. (the price of modding the eff out of this thing is the maintenance hours)

That thing looks like it might be fun as a yoke for a flight game, if it did multiple axes, but racing? I just don't get it. Seems like it would be a miserable experience, and rule out long races.

I have no idea what anyone was thinking with that wheel.
I'm about to try the head tracking though, hopefully it works.

The guy at EBGames tried to sell me one of those wheels when I picked up my copy of Forza 4. It was all I could do to not laugh in his face. Having said that, I would TRY the thing, but not for $60 or whatever they want for it. I always seem to end up going back to the standard gamepad, except for something like iRacing.

LOL I was just about to post for opinions about this "wheel" when I saw this thread. Should have known in advance the reception! I enjoy Forza with my kids, but: - Nowhere (and divorce would ensue) to set up a wheel and pedals (and preferably two!)in my livingroom - I find the Xbox controller, though normally a good bit of kit, hopeless for a driving game. Too little travel on sticks and triggers So this seemed like a "practical" compromise. Reception in fact seems pretty good by people who bought it - no-one claims it is a Fanatec replacer, but very good at what it does (upgrade a regular controller) and be plain convenient for a quick game. http://www.racedepartment.com/forza-moto...peed-wheel.htmlhttp://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-...howViewpoints=1Anyway, I'll maybe get one, and if any good will get a second for split screen racing. But since I'm not on any friends list, I don't need to be deleted...

I don't really understand the dislike of this wheel.. sure, it doesn't suit for me as i have the room, space and understanding wife that enables me to permanently set up my wheel.. however for those that can't (such as a mate of mine) its a good solution.
The reviews have been mostly positive and it adds immersion that a pad doesn't. I say go for it.

Nah, not really. Realise you were having some tongue in cheek fun. The "wheel" does look terrible. SimHQ needs to take the gaming a bit more "seriously" than average - given the Sim in the title. So most people here playing with full wheels etc makes absolute sense. Plenty of other sites for pure "casual gaming" and of course, everyone can go play themselves how they like. But we shouldn't crush the sim-lite brigade too much either. It's a fine line which I think is walked well at SimHQ! Even if I am too scared to play ARMA2 here...

**oh, feel free to add me for some Forza if you want** Thanks, I think I will give it a try. If I get competent enough (read not too embarrassing, I get thrashed by my 12 year old daughter on Forza3 using ordinary controllers!) I'll maybe take you up on some online.

If one has the room, but limiters to a budget of 80$, there is the Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Italian wheel. No vibration feedback, but decent budget option.

I don't know how you guys play with controllers, I end up oversteering and cursing like a sailor.
I just stick my wheel on the rock band drum kit and it works reasonably well and tucks away nicely too.
I think the hate for this new wheel is that it's quite a step back from the old MS wireless wheel. I couldn't play a racing game without a gas pedal.

I think for the core gaming crowd, looking for a more driving oriented controller, it would have been better to copy the form-factor of RC car transmitters, not this gyro based nonsense where there's no centering force. You get more control with the wheel (greater travel than the thumb-sticks, and the trigger (pull for gas, push for brake) also has greater travel and fidelity. it would improve driving over the controller, while still being a compact solution. Also, Magnum might still let you be his friend

Just a quick question for the ones ragging out this wheel. Have you actually tried it? Reason I asked is I have it and find it to work really well. Granted it's no $400 wheel, but compared to a controller it gives you much more precision control over the car than the analog thumb stick on the controller.
My console is setup in my livig room and I play from my couch. There is no way for me to hook up any kind of wheel and if I could I would literally have to move furniture and drag a table and chairs into the room to setup a wheel, pedals, etc. If I am going to get that serious about driving I'll hook my good wheel up in my other room on my PC. My console is for casual gaming from my couch.
That being said I had doubts as to whether this wifi wheel would even work, but much to my surprise it actually improved my driving versus using the controller. I am able to move around in traffic and corner much better and I can make nice smooth gradual adjustments instead of the herky jerky movements with the thumb stick. As far as holding this thing out in front of you and your arms getting tired it doesn't happen. I sit back on the couch with a pillow on my lap or just holding it down in front of me where I would normally hold a controller and rotate it to turn. It has an accelerometer in it so it doesn't care how high in the air you hold it.
Anyway, I know you guys are just poking fun at it because it looks silly, and I agree it does look like something for the Wii but black, but it actually does work and has helped me improve my driving in the game. I can guarentee you that none of you would know if I was using it in a MP race.

Don't listen to a bunch of guys who aren't secure enough in their manhood to try a air wheel. lol FYI Magnum I wasn't offended. Takes a lot more than that. For what it's worth I only use it with the lights out because I don't want my neighbors seeing it. lol

yes... but relax I was joking girls. You know you can't make a statement then back out with a simple, "relax I was joking!". There was quite a bit of snobbery in the first page of this thread that illuminates how ridiculous adult men can be when they mistake their sim prowess with prowess in the thing being simulated. F4 is a game. In fact it's a toy. All the hardware purchased to play and experience the game are also toys, nothing more. The Wireless Speed Wheel is no more a toy than the Fanatic Whatever. I come from the equally ridiculous and occasionally delusional flight sim community. But one thing that is fortunately completely missing in that community is any hint of scorn over a player's chosen input TOY. If he/she can fly, that's all that matters. For what it's worth, that odd looking little wheel is freakin great! It could not be more precise. No bumpers--that sucks but my thumb has learned to clutch nicely so the only real drawback is that I can't paint. Don't worry Kevlar and nomex adorned heros, you will never see me and my silly wheel online but save your sneer for the days you are in a real car on a real track rushing toward a real wall.

Don't sweat it Mag, it was all in fun. I once got all kinds of crap for (jokingly) mentioning when I set up IL2 on my 360 controller with Pinnacle. Which I did. "But you can't alter fuel/air mixture! You can't open the radiator!" Whatever, whatever. I doubt I did since I don't play at that level of detail, but could have if I wanted to. Thing is, I was doing it on a lark, which no one caught. We understood where you were coming from though.

I'm glad Microsoft came out with this controller that is half way between wheel and controller, it sounds like it works better than the Wii wheel (which we all assumed it would be like), and it might be the gateway to having more console controller drivers support the simulation wheel physics in racing titles in the future.
I can definitely understand the TV room location/aesthetics situation, that and having to fight the family for TV time to play is what actually kept me away from consoles for so long until last year when I realized I could hook up the consoles to my 1920x1080 monitor using a HDMI switcher, now I use the same gaming setup for consoles as PC, but I realize most are not in the same situation.
Anyhow I see a lot of PC elitism and XBOX/PS3 fanboyism in a lot of the other forums I read, but thankfully here on SimHQ there is a good acceptance of both PC and console gaming (the Forza 1 and Forza2 talk here back in the day is what got me interested in a console in the first place), I think most of us can tell and appreciate the good natured ribbing, but maybe with PS3 Razorback gone for a while the sensitivity/squelch levels for the platform ribbing have gone down a bit...

I did overreact a bit but only because the wheel is quite cool. I have a G940 FFB HOTAS setup on my PC. Nightly I get my a$$ handed to me on Rise of Flight by 12 year olds flying with an ancient Microsoft Sidwinder. The quality of your driving/flying has little to do with the toy you use to move the electrons around.

Nightly I get my a$$ handed to me on Rise of Flight by 12 year olds flying with an ancient Microsoft Sidwinder. The quality of your driving/flying has little to do with the toy you use to move the electrons around. Actually, I used to use the G940, and I noticed my flying and shooting got better across the board when I switched to a CH Fighterstick. Obviously I'm not going to hold it against you that your using a G940, but I do want to point out that good hardware can make a difference sometimes. Also, plus one to everything Kludger said. There are forums on the web where Magnums comment would have been posted without sarcasm, but we're a pretty easy going and understanding bunch here...as long as you avoid the CloD section....

Has anyone used this for anything other than Forza 4, ie is it usable in all/most racing games? Preferably 'race pro', maybe Grid, Forza 3? Cheers Keith

Well here's a Christmas update.
My prezzies for this year were (together with AC/DC Back in Black and "The Accidental Guerilla") two of these "wheels" and Forza 4.
So my girls and I have taken Forza and the wheels for a spin - and we all like them a lot. I'm not arguing they're like real wheels (I have a proper wheel for my PC) but WAY better than the normal Xbox controller. Much easier to drive, and much more immersive. And the U shape? Once you use it, it makes sense - easy to grip, and being entirely wireless means you never forget where centre is.
Now no shoulder buttons (d'oh) but for split screen racing with the kids or some beers - great.
