Gentlemen, a question:

I've just rediscovered Pat's mission generator and was very happy to learn that it can be used to generate co-op campaign mission (pilots and gunners can now fly careers together whoohoo). One thing I have discovered though is the lack of ground targets at the mission point on recon bombing sorties - planes arrive, see nothing then drag their loads back home. I've even tried looking further afield for an aerodrome, railway station, train, bridge - anything to use the ordinance on but the ground objects aren't there.

Does this problem only manifest itself in co-op or does the same problem exist in Pat's single player missions?

Vasco

@ Vaasco:
Playing RoF career beta I followed a bombed-up Brisfit over the lines (as unofficial escort, I was on offensive patrol...) it went over the factory area at Lille, turned around and flew back without dropping a bomb.

A lot of things aren't perfect with RoF, but I trust they will be dealt with, slowly but surely. Meanwhile play to RoF strengths.

@ Patrick: I know I've seen an AI flight flying in tidy formation in one of your v10 missions. I witnessed it while cycling through aircraft views (Shift + 2). I cannot say for certain it was a spawned flight, but it most certainly was in formation and not my formation! Given how v10 works now, how else could it have shown up???

Vasco: There are definitely some things that I have to look at with respect to bombing. On one mission I saw a bomber drop a couple of bombs while the other just kept all of his. They do jettison them before landing though smile. All I really want them to do is attack an area.

As for ground units not appearing, I think that I might spawn them based on player proximity and not bomber proximity. If you are escorting the flight they will be there. If you are just watching another flight they might not.

RoFCampaign missions really do stretch the game to its performance limits, sometimes even on "Low". I am trying more and more to keep things out of the mission unless/until they absolutely have to be there from the player's PoV. if it were up to me I would recreate a 50 mile segment of front ... but taht wouldn't work out so well performance wise smile.

Bandy: 10.0 works in terms of flying way points and in formation because it does not spawn aircraft (except in balloon defense and scramble). The aircraft will circle - deactivated - until their timer triggers. What I wanted was to spawn the aircraft during the mission and then have them fly their route. That would have produced a significant performance improvement, at least in the early parts of the mission.

Regardless, 10.0 should represent a performance improvement for most and certainly much easier configuration for all.

Thank you Pat,

I am flying a career with 10 Sqn RFC in F2bs (FII). In both cases the aircraft were tasked to attack a point on the German lines, so I was both player and bomber. I hope this information helps.

What is the best way to edit known pilots in your Squadron, (not necessarily aces)?

I tried editing the .campaign file, (RoF Campaign\campaigns\Your pilot's name\)

At first it worked, I added successfully the relevant pilots and assigned them personal paint schemes.
When I tried to change a setting in Configuration menu,
(changed the take off spacing from default 30m to 25m, as one of my squadron's plane was always starting merged with the windsock pole).
After that I couldn't continue my Campaign...
I was getting an error message.
From then on I couldn't edit the .campaign file in any of the fresh Campaigns I created, without the same error occurring! sigh

I tried a different approach, editing the Aces file, no joy though... nope

PS: (checked the aces file in my pilot' Campaign folder and only one of the three new 'aces' is there, not yet activated according to my edit,
the other two though, (earlier activated ones) were not there!)

Any ideas?

Installing Patrick Wilson's Campaign Mission Generator

Make sure Java is installed on your computer and for the correct operating system, i.e. there is a 64 bit version.

Unzip Patrick Wilson's (PW) Campaign download and install the RoFCampaign folder only in your ...\Rise of Flight\ folder. This folder is the one with the .jar file & data & campaign folders, Pat may be using nested folders now to track version number so get only the right folder into the game.

Make sure you set the correct path for the Auto Results Directory when you set up the first time.
On main PW screen go into Configuration\Advanced Config\Configuration Parameters:GUI and enter for the Mission Log File Directory the following:
for a 64 bit system C:\Program Files (x86)\Rise of Flight\data
or for 32 bit OS just C:\Program Files\Rise of Flight\data

Now in the RoF game file (don't look for it in the PW campaign 'data' folder) ...\Rise of Flight\data\Startup.cfg scroll to near the bottom and ensure that mission_text_log = 1, edit with Notepad if necessary and save.

Make a desktop shortcut to the RoFCampaign.jar, or set this file as a default start up option in your OS, this opens PW's campaign GUI.
Don't expect the same level of GUI detail as the in-game 'Career Beta', Pat's missions are where it's at, and the ability to configure/scale the variables to your system.

That should be it for install. Start a new campaign with a new pilot, choose a squadron etc.

Click on Generate a mission:
- RoFCampaign generates a mission in the RoF Missions directory in the form <pilot name>.mission

Leave PW's campaign GUI open, and start up Rise of Flight. Navigate to that mission and fly it. Once complete, accept the mission results.

Alt-tab out of RoF, or quit game, and go back into PW's campaign GUI, and select Automatic results. If you flew more than once, there may be more than one mission results to choose from and it isn't simple to figure out which is which, so beware, fly a PW mission and go right back to PW GUI to avoid confusion.

After you've 'uploaded' results into PW GUI, make sure you enter a report for the mission in the supplied text field. I find it fun to go back and review past missions every now and then to keep in touch with my pilot, especially if you have several pilots on the go.

IMPORTANT
If you also fly Quick Missions or Career Beta make sure you go into the ...\Rise of Flight\data\ folder and delete old mission results files. Delete all similar files after MissionParserLog.txt with the same extension (.txt I think?).

Enjoy!

Is there anyway to make the Bristols scouts and not just bombing and recon? As they where used as scouts.

Really want to fly as a scout in one as I've just bought the plane in the sale.

You can't make it a scout but you can configure it so it flies all scout missions in advanced configuration/recon mission types
