Today was very much a "Winston Churchill" kind of day at work- "never in the course of human history, has so much sales been done, by so few, for so little in tips." MAN I can't wait to quit that job.

Wheels Thanks, Wheels. I had a kick-ass interview with Siemens last week for a position over the summer, and I'm looking at several work-study positions on campus that are 1) better paying, 2) don't count as taxable income when it comes to financial aid, and 3) more in line with what I'm studying. Not to mention closer to school/ home- I'm driving 11 miles one way out of my way to go to work right now as it is- which means the first half hour I'm at work is paying for my gas just to get there and home. I put in my 2 weeks' notice a little bit ago after a particularly nasty disagreement with my manager (we disagree on most things, actually...), but the owner begged me to stay on for one more week so she could train/ hire my replacement. I don't have any problems with her, and I try not to burn bridges if I can avoid it, so I'll only be there a couple more weeks.

NavyNuke, you shouldn't have much trouble getting an internship around here. You tried all the companies in RTP and Raleigh? I'd go door to door down Centennial Campus if I were you.

"never in the course of human history, has so much sales been done, by so few, for so little in tips." Do you work at a bar or restaurant? What kills me are people who say that they aren't giving tips because of the "bad economy" but yet they can afford to go out to eat and drink?

"never in the course of human history, has so much sales been done, by so few, for so little in tips." Do you work at a bar or restaurant? What kills me are people who say that they aren't giving tips because of the "bad economy" but yet they can afford to go out to eat and drink? Coffee shop. Slinging WAY overpriced coffee (mixed drinks go for between $4 and $9 typically, and that's not including food). On a typical 5 hour shift, I'll walk out the door with on average about $3.50 in tips, usually on at least $100 of sales run through my register. Though to be honest, if the owners used a system that allowed people using credit/ debit cards to leave tips, perhaps we'd be doing better. That, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of loyal "regular" customers who are super generous. The biggest issue I have with the place though is the manager- I can put up with a lot, but to say that he and I have butted heads would be an understatement- as I'm sure you've seen me mention on Facebook once or twice (rule #1- if you want to gripe about a job, don't add any of your coworkers/ customers on Facebook!). And Piper- we had the career fair here at State last week- I made a lot of great contacts, passed out lots of resumes, and I know I'll be hearing back from a few places sooner than later. Tekelec in particular seemed particularly interested in me next year for a co-op; their hiring manager is also a former Navy Nuke Electrician. So it's just a matter of time there...

Wheels You mean probably about 75% of US workers? Lol, I didn't realize that it was so low. I thought more would be unsatisified with their daily grind. Wheels
