There has been a few people commenting on getting their wheel/controller saved as the default controller in F1 2011. Myrig found that you can automatically save the default controller by pressing the start button (or equivalent) on the wheel after you have launched the game instead of pressing [Enter] on the keyboard. When the game has launched and you press [Enter] on the keyboard or the start button on your wheel determines at that stage what your default controller is going to be.....
....however there is a problem, some wheels don't have a 'Start' button or it is mapped to a button which isn't obvious at all, if you are in this position the following information should help you. (Note, if you have a G27, the 'start' button is second red button from right on the shifter unit) but the information below will help you change it to another button and you can also use the information to find your wheel/controller and edit the settings as required.
This is for those people who want to use their G-25 / G27 wheel without using the manual shifter to start the game. You may have to find the button assignments for your particular wheel/controller.
Open C:\Program Files \Codemasters\f1 2011\actionmap (on XP DVD verson)
Open C:\Program Files \Steam\steamapps\common\f1 2011\actionmap (on XP Steam)
Open C:\Program Files \Steam\steamapps\common\f1 2011\actionmap (on Steam Win 7 x32bit)
Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\f1 2011\actionmap (on Steam Win 7 x64bit)
Find This File 'G27 Racing Wheel.xml' (or the controller you want to use as default)
Right click on your mouse and choose open with notepad (or ideally Notepad++)
Find this statement.
- <Action actionName="Menu Start Button">
- <Axis axisName="di_button_17">
<CalibratorSimple type="uniDirectionalPositive" />
</Axis>
and replace it with this !
- <Action actionName="Menu Start Button">
- <Axis axisName="di_button_7">
<CalibratorSimple type="uniDirectionalPositive" />
</Axis>
Button 17 is for the manual shifter to start the game, button 7 is your top left button on your wheel.
You can cut and paste it or simply change the number 17 do a 7 (ie "di_button_17" to read "di_button_7".
After doing this run the Game and when the screen say's START use the top left button on your wheel to START the game then you can use your enter key as normal. Now setup your wheel then go to profile and save your new settings by SAVING PROFILE. Now go race!
Please note this only starts the game it will not mess up the wheel settings in the game.
After using the button to start the game, the button then goes back to being user defined keys that you set in the controller options.
