I have just installed a new glidewrapper from

nGlideWrapper

Unlike Zeckensack's it includes my screen resolution

I am trying it in 4:3 which gives a pic the height of my monitor, less width, but a very clear picture with a round gunsight from the aspect ratio. If I use the screen aspect ratio it is stretched to the full width, still a clear picture, but an oval gunsight.
The only fault so far is that the on screen text (HUD in game) is not quite as clear.

Hi Tony.

Have you tried it with 512x512 textures?

Jel,
did you have to uninstall the Zecken for this one to work?
There is no option to turn off the Zecken, so?
So far, do you think the NGlide is better?
thanks,
AO

I installed NGlide, and tried it with ZS still installed. It ran NGlide (I could tell from the splash scrteen after I hit "Fly"). I still have the ZS installer, so I deleted ZS.
I think NGlide is simpler and easy to set up. The main benefit for me is that it is not locked into 4:3 screen sizes.
BTW the slight problem with the HUD text only occurs with my 1920 x 1080 resolution. If I set something smaller the text appears at its normal size.

I just tried it with the d3d windower which I do not actually need. It rand OK. On this laptop I have never got Zeckensack's glidewrapper and the windower to work together.

Hi Tony.

Have you been able to run 512x512 x 8bit in Glide?

What I have done is to use the 1.28E 512x512 dark download, and put the "*.bmp" files in a subfolder so that they are not used.
I loaded this terrain with OAW, and ran in Glide with the terrain detail set to high.
The upshot was tat I get problems like this:

I have no idea why.
I know that the "*.bmp" files only need corresponding "*.ter" files of the correct size, but do not use them for textures, so dummy ones can be used.
I have not converted any of the "*.ter" files to see what they are like.

I just uninstalled nGlide and reinstalled Zeckensacks.
The problem occurs with both:

I will uninstall Zeckensacks, and re-install nGlide because it suits my screen setup far better.

I think that most people who found that they needed a glidewrapper followed the lead of others who were already using Zeckensack's.
Ralf found that running in glide gave better frame rates on his rig. Others used it because it gave horizon fog.

This thread started because of Stratos' recent thread. He was not getting horizon fog in d3d, and I have the same problem. I advised him to use a glidewrapper, and was looking for a link to Zeckensack's when I came across a review of several, including nGlide. As nGlide seemed to be much more recent, and even windows 7 compatible, I thought that i would check it out.

For me it has several advantages, especially the screen size availability, and I recommend it.

The aspect ratio has two choices- 4:3 or full screen.

per the page http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide under the frequently asked questions;

Quote:
Does nGlide support widescreen monitors? Yes, nGlide supports 16:9 and 16:10 widescreen resolutions. For these, you can set original 4:3 aspect ratio to avoid image stretching.
