By R.W. Paul
London 1900
AFEW words of explanation may be offered as to the origin and objects of this Booklet. In consequence of the interest at present manifested in all matters concerning the Army, it occurred to the writer to take a series of .Animated
Photographs illustrating the life and career of a soldier, and the work of each branch of the Service. The project was laid before the War Office authorities, who, foreseeing- that recruiting would be stimulated by a more wide-spread knowledge of Army Lite, courteously gave every facility. The Animated Photographs thus secured are now being given as an entertainment in various parts of the country.

By Captain George R. Clark
US Naval Academy 1944
This history owed its origin to the need of a work suit able in scope and treatment as a text-book for the midship men of the United States Naval Academy. Since, in a tentative form, it has been used by them with gratifying results, there is hope that it may prove of interest andvalue to others whose time for this subject is limited. It has been written with certain definite aims, the principal of which are the following: First, to present a record of exactly what happened, without personal, sectional, or national prejudice. Second, to regard naval events from the professional rather than the picturesque point of view;

XX Bomber Command 1944
This manual was prepared from many sources for your use. Study it. The material has been gathered to help improve the combat efficiency of both new and old crews, to serve as a reference, and to orient you not only in your job but in the job of others who work to help you put more bombs on the target. Nowhere in the conduct of warfare does study yield such direct and large returns as it does in aerial wartare; yet, nowhere is the standard so exacting as that of high altitude precision bombing. It is felt this training manual will contribute toward the goal of "MORE BOMBS ON THE TARGET"" with a minimUm of loss to our forces.

By Claude Grahame-White, Harry Harper
T.C & E.C. Jack. 1911
Our aim in these pages is to tell a complete story of the aerial conquest, beginning from crude experiments, made hundreds of years ago; passing thence to the first serious experimenters, with their difficulties and triumphs; and so carrying on the tale to presentday achievements and the latest-type machines...

Air Publications 1945
General Motors / Eastern Aircraft produced 5,280 FM variants of the Wildcat. Grumman's Wildcat production ceased in early 1943 to make way for the newer F6F Hellcat, but General Motors continued producing Wildcats for both US Navy and Fleet Air Arm use. Late in the war, the Wildcat was obsolescent as a front-line fighter compared to the faster (380 mph/610 km/h) F6F Hellcat or much faster (446 mph/718 km/h) F4U Corsair. However, they were adequate for small escort carriers against submarine and shore threats. These relatively modest ships carried only two types of aircraft (along with the GM-built Avengers). The Wildcat's lower landing speed and ability to take off without a catapult made it more suitable for shorter flight decks. At first, GM produced the FM-1, identical to the F4F-4, but reduced the number of guns to four, and added wing racks for two 250 lb (110 kg) bombs or six rockets. Production later switched to the improved FM-2 (based on Grumman's XF4F-8 prototype) optimized for small-carrier operations, with a more powerful engine (the 1,350 hp (1,010 kW) Wright R-1820-56), and a taller tail to cope with the torque.
