So I finally watched the original "Predator" on bluray last night and I was really happy with the high def remastering. In fact, the high def was done so well that in the scene where Arnold is escaping from the Predator and he falls down the waterfall my girlfriend said "the picture is so clear you can tell it's a stunt double!". I just had to laugh. smile

Anyway, I've always believed that what makes Predator such a great sci-fi film is the chemistry between the members of Arnold's SpecOps team and of course Kevin Peter Hall's performance as the Predator. Oh and the score by Alan Silvestri rocks.

Glad you mentioned the score, really a great part of the movie.

One of my favorites from the Arnold back-catalog.

Great movie!

Get to da choppa!

Watched AvP Requiem last night, second time seeing it. Yep, just as bad a POS as I thought the first time. Really dont know why anyone would exit the Stryker with creatures like that going about. I'd get as many people in it as I could, and drive 70mph as far away from there as the diesel tank would let me. Then I'd spend $1000 to fuel it up and drive even further!

It really should not have been a mystery that they'd have to use a nuke to contain the infection/invasion.

Funny thing is, the original Predator movie was just so good, it followed the classic monster rule of showing very little of it, until the end of the movie...it may be an old way of story telling, but darn it, that works! I think it tends to work even for sequels, but many sequels dont bother trying that. Aliens, on the other hand, doesnt show any alien bugs until at least tge halfway point, and only a bit. Only towards the end do you start seeing lots of it.

Hmm, funny you mention the music. Predator has a "duh duh dur di duh dur" punchy bass riff. I think it's the same one from Clint Eastwoods "Hang 'em High". I'll have to check that out.

Gotta go, I ain't got time to bleed.

Something else I noticed for the first time that I thought was both funny and awkward.

During the sequence when the specops team is attacking the guerilla compound, one of the guerillas gets set on fire and I clearly heard him say "Ahhhhh, me muero!" which is basically "Ahhhhh, I'm dying!". I just thought that was hilarious because I don't think a soldier on fire and being shot would bother with saying that. biggrin

Lots of films in that time period had some awesome dialogue that is long remembered. It sort of stopped after 1990 or so, though. There aren't too many films after that date which are quoted so much.

I mean, just in the mid 80s:
Top Gun
Ghostbusters
Aliens
Predator
Dune
Star Trek 2-4
Back to the Future
Beverly Hills Cop

I'm sure there are lots more, but those are off the top of my head.

I am surprised that you didn't mention "Return of the Jedi." It's a Trap

Admiral Ackbar's "It's a trap!" scene

That may be the only time a post using the words "awesome dialogue" and "Return of the Jedi" has appeared in a single post on the Internet.
