You see that last screen a lot as there are loads of 'snipers'.

I'm curious to see the final product on 360 and pc. So far, neither the pc beta nor the 360 beta look remotely like the gameplay videos they released. Not a bad looking game, but not what they had people expecting. A few nice destruction bits, but not that much. It will be interesting to compare the real thing to these betas.

We went up against a team that was full of snipers last night, by full I mean something like 14 of the 16 players using the bush wookie class. With good comms, a handful of shotguns and grenades and liberal use of the Q key we kept them pushed against their spawn while their tickets dwindled, they didn't near get a single objective, then the server crashed....

That was the third time I had unlocked my shock paddles last night, the 4th time I finally got to keep them :-/

Good shots, does high look much better? I agree it doesn't look as nice as the promos had made it seem.

I'm sitting out this beta, as the BFBC2 beta was so laggy and sniper/spam filled that it made me not buy BC2 for a long time until I kept hearing how good it was.

I will wait to play BF3 with final tweaks and tunings, even though that means I will be behind a few weeks on learning the maps and strategies.

I am really enjoying the beta. At 1920x1980 "Ultra" it seems pegged at 60 fps. Graphics are really well done and the sounds are GREAT! Definitely a day 1 purchase for me.

Is this game having same issue where people can switch any weapon they desire? A friendly force would have AK / m16 / whatever...? So I can't identify enemy by their gunfire

yes i know Jeevz... and he's been warned and on my watch list... he hates the BF series but has too comment or highjack every thread about it. You would think he would avoid threads with the BF3 title. wink

Ultra is looking tasty, I may have to try the beta just in case to see whether it runs well on Ultra on my comp and is day 1 buy for me or whether I will wait for the inevitable EA price drop and sales, the BFBC2 beta turned me off so much that I waited on it and eventually bought it for $15, one of the best FPS deals ever, besides TF2 which I got with Orange Box and have been playing for 3-4 years.

PS. I think they had to make the jets slow otherwise with the limited map size they would run into the map limit just turning around... it isn't Arma2 or DCS and anyone who played the earlier BF series (BF1942 even) knows the planes are slower than normal due to map size.

On the plane speed I meant relative to BF2 jets - I've had far too many hours in that to know smile

Are you sure you haven't got 'vsync' enabled and it's locked to your monitor refresh? I'm running a GTX580 and average 60-90 fps (FRAPS). I've tested stepping down my settings from 'Ultra' to high and medium and there isn't any noticeable difference. There are many forums claiming that the settings are locked at 'Medium' too!

I don't know guys, I checked it at Ultra and it doesn't look any better. Helps to turn down the brightness some, but this doesn't even closely resemble what they've been teasing.
I'd say the 360 looks every bit as good if not even better at this point. I've tried both on two different monitors.

Yes, I have vsync on. I never run games without vsync.

That's the reason then.....'vsync' is the term that synchronises your framerate with your monitor refresh.....therefore you will 'max out' at whatever your monitor is pushing (in most cases 59/60hz) for LCD's. It's the same reason why you should experience less clipping/artifacts/tearing because the frames don't update before the monitor is ready to display them.

I'm playing BF3 with vsync off and there doesn't seem to be any problems.

This post explains why vsync can be a bad thing in games a lot clearer than I ever could. It really comes down to how your graphics card copes with a particular game, vsync has its advantages as well as disadvantages.

Well I haven't played the 360 version but the PS3 version looks terrible when compared to the PC version. It looks good for a console game but it's not even in the same ballpark as the PC.

if you have a machine that can run BF3 in ultra or high, then yes it looks alot better... most can only run BF3 (beta) at medium... and if thats the case, the 360 and PC on medium look very simular, and the big screen gives the console a slight advantage at distance... IMO, after I've played and compared both.

BTW, who screwed up this post with side scrolling screens... ruined the look of the whole thread. lol

I noticed that too. But, really, it makes sense. This is mostly a ground/infantry warfare game. The maps are FAR too small to have aircraft flying at Mach 1 overhead. You'd be off the map in seconds. While these maps are large when compared to games like CoD, they're small when compared to aircombat sims like Lock-On. It just doesn't make any sense for them to model true airspeed.

Besides, it's a game, not a simulation. You wanna fly jets, go buy a legit air combat game.

Yes, it's very playable at ULTRA. I have a dual core system, I7 3.8 ghz , and a 1 gb ATI 5770 video card. Runs without any problem at all, and fast. Game had it automatically set at hig for me, but I decided to try ultra just for the hell of it. I left it on, obviously.

Ooops. I'm thinking that Core duo is two core system. Yeah, make that quad core, I guess. Damn, I don't even know what kind of PC I'm running here. And I've had it for a year, already. I apologize for being stupid.

Let's just say the PC's superiority is far more evident in the full game.

I know what vsync is. smile No problems here with vsync on, BF3 runs fantastic.

I was stating my FPS are "locked" at 60 fps, meaning the max refresh rate. Sorry, I should have been more clear. Running the game at 2560x1600 at "Ultra" is not as .....smooth. lol

My bad.....I interpreted it that you were surprised at being capped at 60fps even though vsync was turned on.

Although the graphics are impressive I still don't think they're quite up to the level we've seen in the trailers etc.....here's hoping the full game really will unleash 'Ultra'. I can't see a difference in frame rate or graphical detail moving from Medium or High to Ultra at 1920x1080.
