There are much fewer little glitches (although there a still a few) and the game is much, much improved from an FPS and stutter standpoint with only the occasional stutter, even over the densest terrain with a large number of aircraft in the air.

In short, the game is now VERY playable for me, whereas before the beta patch and the addon, it wasn't. We are getting much closer to what we expected originally. And, I am running the game with almost every graphic setting maxed out.

Ok.

Thanks to Wick vs. Dundas and HeinKill's review of it I'm installing COD for the first time(!!) since I bought it on Day2 of the release. Content is what really drives in the end of the day. thumbsup

Cheers,
Dirk.

How, may I ask, do you manage to find the enemy?

I'm on the 4th 111 Sqn mission (where you must down some Stukas over Dunkirk), and for the love of me I can't find the enemy.

For one thing, I can't keep up with the squadron leader's section so I can't see when they break to attack. And secondly I'm not sure if the vectoring from Control is meant for ME or the Squadron Leader (So if control says vector 120... does he mean I should turn to 120 degrees, or should I figure out where the Squadron Leader is and turn to his 120 degrees?)

And when I think I AM where the bandits are (I get a nice warning saying Shoot Down 2 Stukas!), I cannot for the life of me find the enemy.

Any help would be appreciated.

as far as finding the enemy, i figure out wich sector i am in. (i.e sector S 15)
the report will say enemy spotted vector 090, sector t 15
i look at landmarks on map. in this case there is a port city with a distinguishable port water break.
thats what i have found they attack. the city adjacent and south of that port.
i dont know if ill waste my ammo on stuka's. i cant shoot um down. i see me 110's though!.

they also say angels, which is altitude in thousands
.
.
as far as speed, catching up with the pack.
ive flown it twice wink
i jump on takeoff, so as not to be left behind.
after the group makes a few form up turns after take off, they settle down into an eastwardly course.
when they do, i go full throttle, full prop pitch.
for about 20 seconds maybe. watch further airspeed increase.
then slam her into the high speed prop pitch
at that point there should be no problem overtaking the group.
anticipate and maybe go 1/2 throttle? to join formation.
next time, i'll head the pack so i dont get confused about who is who.

i could use tips on takeoff!
hell full fuel, i barely scrape bottom every time!!
i tried using saved profile with 60% fuel to no effect.
maybe my commander will not allow it.

DESASTERSOFT
big props to Desastersoft!!!! thank you for making this!!!
thanks for putting up a forum!!!

CLOD
and thanks clod for working hard on patching
(everything runs great exept on the ground, engine smoke really jams my S! up)

Thank you for the above, but I have two questions concerning the above:

1- What do you mean, you "jump" on takeoff? Do you mean you just takeoff really quickly, and don't take your time.

2- What do you mean by full prop pitch and high speed prop pitch? Is full=fine, and high speed=coarse?

So you go full throttle with fine prop pitch for 20 seconds, then switch to coarse prop pitch? Which then allows you to catch up? Do you stay at full throttle?

Thank you.

This mission was a big learning curve for me too. I learned some things which helped with following missions, but of course I do not play full real so it won't be much help, if you do:

- use map: it shows where the mission builder has placed objects. Objects = target. So you know where the enemy is going.

- takeoff quickly (as stated above). I just use 'I' for engine start, so I am airborne quick smart

- fly low and be patient. flying low helps you spot the enemy aircraft against the sky above. if you try to gain alt and get above the raid, they are almost impossible to spot against the ground. the patience then comes into play because you will then take quite some time to get to altitude behind the raid, and then get into a position for an attack. Most of my attacks on bomber raids took place over the Channel as the raid was on its way home, but that was not untypical in BoB. I think this clip captures it...

It's also the one where Susanne York wanders around in her underwear, but stop at 7 mins if that worries you!
