So I just got through to the last stage of the "Easy" instant action mission and had to go and find a base to rearm at after hitting the tanks.

My first question is: How to I task my wingman to attack some targets? I wouldn't have run out of ammunition if i'd had him!

Second question is: after landing - how do I rearm? I landed at Tiblisi and tried to park everywhere and consistently asked the ground crew for arming but no response! I was tuned to the right frequency (same as ATC) and had no trouble contacting the ATC for permissions...

If you could explain these answers to me, i'd be very grateful!

Thanks

- Alex

Nice vid on the Ground Crew commo, kylania.

If you land the jet after a good run and need to rearm, contact the Ground Crew like in kylania's video, then you have to get the new loadout into the CDU.

Press and HOLD the DSMS button. HOLD it until you get a new menu that gives new function choices to select. Choose the Load function and press the DSMS again and it should switch to Load. Then you should see a DSMS Load choice on the left side - OSB 18 or 19 ? Press that to get the new loadout into the CDU.

Then press and HOLD the Load button and go through the switching process to reset that button back to DSMS. You should then see your new loadout on the DSMS page on the MFCD.

I wish I knew how to do videos. I'd love to splice some clips together with music. Such a n00b.. when it comes to hard stuff.

i dont know if this is true or not, but i found that some airports are not "active" in some missions. that meant for me that i had to land at the termination airfield and then i would get service, but just any random airfield got me nothing.

good luck keeping your wingman from killing himself attacking SAMs, BTW. I usually lose mine that way...

Thanks for your help.

How do I know what frequency my wingman is on?

ugh... I figured out what I was doing wrong in the first 40 seconds of kylania's rearming video. I was at a neutral base...duh

I was flying the river raid mission and was very close to cleaning up all bunkers. I had taken out an SA-11, and SA-6 -- wingman was good in the sense that at least they were aiming at him for a while. Bunkers 1,2,3, and 6 were gone, but I needed more weapons as was suggested in the mission brief -- only waypoint 8 put me on a Neutral base!

Well, I'm going back in...

O.K. I guess the joke's on me! Every Airfield in the mission is Neutral!! hahaha

Why suggest rearming when it cannot be done? Can I edit the mission to make my airfield friendly?

A quick review of this thread and I did not see something important -

To contact the Ground Crew the Commo Selector dial on the lower left side panel has to be switched from VHF to INT. Then you should get a ground crew response to your requests. Once the GC responds then go ahead and switch the Comms dial back to VHF.

The Ground Crew will respond with 'Copy' if you contact them correctly.

Skydoc,

The inactive airports were neutrals. They won't lift a finger to help (but they don't shoot at you either! wink ).

Goblin,

If there are no units placed at an airfield, it will be neutral. The mission designer needs to place a single ground unit on the airfield to convert it to the same side. I'm not sure if this is true of all ground units or just some, but once you have the one unit, the airbase spawns its own defense units, which is how you know it's been "converted".

WC, IIRC, having to dial in the INT selector knob was only introduced in the last patch or so, so it might not have been the case when this post was first started.

Goblin, you will need to check via the F10 map if an airbase is neutral or blue. If none of them are, well, you will need to learn something new. And that is -- sometimes victory can be achieved even without eliminating all hostiles off the map. Are you talking about the instant mission wherein the first target is a bunch of trucks and you start off in the air? IIRC that goes up to Hard difficulty, putting more enemies in the map. I think the last one even had you contact JTAC... I need to fly that mission again. Anyway, I do remember after the first waypoint (trucks) and the second waypoint (trucks with some soldiers), I think you had to take out a bridge or something... in the more difficulty missions, there was AAA stationed near that target so you'd have to gain altitude. If you took out the AAA, you'd not have enough ordnance left for the last bit with the JTAC. And you will have to use your guns too.

Disclaimer: I have not flown that mission for a good while now so some of it may not be correct with the current version.
