The engines were the normal "six turning and four burning", but the plane carried an onboard nuclear reactor to test the effects of radiation and how efficiently it could be shielded and so on, for viability tests that would eventually lead to nuclear-powered planes..they hoped According to the pilots, the cockpit was so heavily shielded that it was almost completely silent in there, even when at takeoff power. _________________________ In all my years I've never seen the like.
