The Wings of Prey Airshow 2011 (a virtual airshow)
I had the idea for this a while ago after the introduction of the flyby camera. I've been to a few airshows in recent years and thought it would be fun to try and create a virtual airshow using some of the warbirds from Wings of Prey.
I've used a few filters and motion to try to give the video that hand-held-camera, spectator type of feel to it and used some actual airshow audio in parts to add to the illusion.
Please forgive my meagre display of aerobatics. You'll see more rolls than in a bakery!
Check out the P-51's screaming whine as it zooms past the camera! It displays the paintscheme of 'Big Beautiful Doll', sadly lost at Duxford this year. You'll also notice that this aircraft is predominant in the video. It gave me the best angles and the reflections on that chrome surface are very nice!
Special thanks to Fenris and MadMass for the skins.
Crank up the volume! Glo

Great video and skills Glo, and the gfx look awesome especially the Mustang, I need to reinstall this too, maybe will tide me over waiting for COD to mature...
The p-51 looks amazing, maybe I should get hat sim! Is the campain any good in it? Cod has been a big let down for me but I would really like a ww2 sim to play around with.

Wow! Thanks FF. I feel rather honoured
Thanks all for the nice comments. I do appreciate them.
I_Flyby, I did consider releasing one without the music and just the aircraft sounds but decided against it. I edited out some airshow dialogue by looping and blending some parts. You can't notice this with the music playing but you can hear the repetition and edits without it. Some of the airshow audio is not the best quality either and the music masks this.

Thanks again!
Er...can someone explain what a 'banana pass' is...? I'll put one in part II.

Is it a topside pass? If so it's about a 45 degree banked flypast along the length of the crowdline displaying the top of the aeroplane for photographers benefit. If you were looking from a Gods eye view the aeroplanes track would describe a curved convex (banana?) shape from say crowd left to crowd right.

Glo
A banana pass is an arching 45 degree (sometimes greater) pass.
The video posted above is a banana pass. It's called a banana pass because if you look at the flight path of the airplane from above it looks like a banana.

GloDark7, I *think* Counterman was just kidding, since that's really for photographers at air shows. I'm not sure it would help very many people watching your video, but it might make the performance more realistic.

Blimey, I've seen loads of them and didn't even know it was called that. You live and learn!
Thanks for the info. If I do another one, I'll put a few in. The 'photographers' can do print-screens while making shutter noises
BTW Counterman. Just looked at your Flickr page. Incredible shots.

Ohhh Ken. I don't kid. :-P
I wasn't kidding though. If you want to make an airshow, doing those things are important. This video is one of the best and most realistic looking ones I have seen. Glo has loads of talent.
