Started playing BMS and I love it but one bug is driving me insane. the game consistently crash to desktop when I click"setup" in the main menu, but only from the second time the game is launched. first time is fine. Tried reinstalling and redownloading, first time fine, second time and on that BMS is launched, it crashes when clicking "setup"

Already posted this in the official BMS forums where other people are having the same issue, but I thought I would ask here in case anyone had an idea what the solution could be.

Problem Solved

Falcon doesn't like screen refresh rates above 60 Hz, so don't attempt.
refresh rates can be set in the graphics tab inside Setup menu (how ironic)

I am running @75HZ and have no trouble getting into the options menu??

BMS 4.32 now crashes on me every time I open the Setup menu. Just like it was for the OP.
Differently by the OP however, is the fact that changing refresh rate doesn't help me.

Oddly enough I installed and played BMS always at 75 Hz. Recently, and apparently for no
reason, this game goes CTD every single time I click the Setup button. Allow me to underline
the for no reason caveat, because I have this games' system pretty much 'frozen' with new
software neither getting in nor out (I have other bootable O.S.es for that). Whatever the problem
with this CTD is, it was within BMS 4.32 from the start. It just awakened and there's no hint to
a why.

With the development of BMS 4.32 coming to a halt (given their last update) I doubt this
problem will ever be investigated, much less solved. Proove me wrong, I dare ya

Why do you think BMS development is coming to a halt? The last update was the last for 4.32 because the next one will be 4.33

Regarding your CTD, has this happened on BMS before? If you're not set on your BMS install, have you tried a complete reinstall? Also check your updates if all have been downloaded correctly.

Does BMS crash if you do something else, like load up a TE or campaign?

No, BMS never crashed on me before. I have correctly reinstalled it with each update every
time they updated it. Though I'm no fan of BMS, I admit I dutifully looked around it after
each update to see if it was made more to my likings. Gotta be honest: never a crash.

Unfortunately I can't tell you when _this_ problem started. I just launched BMS by accident
today (a mis-click, truly). Since I was at it, I went along and decided to fly around a bit.
But I wanted to change a key binding for the DED switch, so I opened the Setup menu (as I did
many times before this day)... and it just crashed to desktop.
Afterward it kept going CTD every time I attempted to open the Setup menu. I also rebooted
the PC, just in case: no change.

So long I don't open the Setup screen, there won't be a crash.

As for the update files themselves, I'm positive they are genuine. They do match the expected
MD5 hash, at least. I haven't tried to uninstall and reinstall. I'd like to avoid that, since
it's not exactly a small thing. Also it makes no sense to undo and redo. If by any chance this
fixes it, it would only proove that the problem is indeed lurking within their code, because
-I repeat- absolutely nothing has changed in my system. Think of it as software set in stone.
That's what my games' O.S. is (if I'm allowed to say it: in this sense I'm more conservative
than a taliban).

If everything is as you say, then unfortunately I am stumped. Want to post in the BMS forums? I'll have a look around there as well to see what I can dig up. Sorry I can't be of more help at the moment.

Just create a new fresh pilot that should solve your problem
