[GTL] Targa Florio

http://www.drivingitalia.net/forum/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=1775

Already a big thank you "Targa TEAM" of GPL, without whom this would have been possible.

thank to Kuato and to the team that converted the GPL version for rFactor, and are giving permission for conversion to GTL.
Neel Jani and myself have used the version of rFactor to give you the pleasure of riding with the GTL cars on this great track.

3 track for the AIW Targa : Historical, Regular, Aiw GPL
Maximum of 36 cars expected (see 50), except Aiw GPL maximum 26

Cool track, 45 miles jawdrop gonna take a lifetime to learn though.

magicalflyer, If you cant wait for an official GTR2 release it only takes a few minutes to get it working yourself.

unzip it to your GTR2\GameData\Locations folder.
Inside the Targa folder there are 3 subfolders, in each of these there is a .trk file.
Open these in notepad, (note, there big files so notepad might run a bit slow, be patient).
Edit the following lines near the top.

MASFile=Skies_central.gtl
to
MASFile=Skies_central.gtr

MASFile=teammaps.gtl
to
MASFile=TeamMaps2.gtr

Thats it, now go drive.

It's working, Mark thumbsup.

I know it's probably because I run it in a "wrong sim", but in GTR2 this track needs almost forever to load. Not just the first time, but every time. And using JSGT add-ons, GTR2 went CTD when I tried to do a 30-cars race. It's okay when I reduced the AI cars to 21, though. Frame rate went funny, between 10-30 fps. Even racing solo it never goes above 50.
Most annoying is the fact that I had to do a complete outlap before the timer starts. Why? The rFactor version doesn't do this.
AI drivers seem to have some difficulty racing here. They often brake hard until coming to almost complete stop before a tight turn, scrap the walls, and hit an obstacle at full speed. I've never seen GTR2 AI drivers behave like this before.
Oh, and if I replay while racing, when I get back the game goes to a slideshow. I had to restart GTR2 to cure this problem.

So, how is it working in GTL? I hope the problems I have is simply because I forced the track to run in GTR2. And I sure hope they don't just "repack and rename" the files for the "real" GTR2 version..

Seems to do all the same things in GTL, I think its probably pushing the limits of what GTR2/GTL can handle.
The AI could be improved with some editing but it would be a huge job on this track, certainly not one I would want to tackle.

I'm OK with the load times as I fly FSX so I'm used to long load times smile
And I'm not too bothered about the AI either as I think its more of a timetrial track for me.

I might have a go at getting it into Race07 next. It would make a great point to point/hillclimb track.
