These threads usually settle into two camps of:

- I play Single Player, the AI sucks and needs to be better.

- I play Multi Player, the FM sucks and needs to be better. What's AI again?

Both are probably right. I personally think AI does need a good brain upgrade, as it seems to be on the right track of having lots of attributes to describe the behavior but still too much 'that's not physics' rule-breaking to be credible. Even in MP when an AI aircraft does something crazy it can be quite annoying.

*shakes head* You make the AI to capable and people complain, you make the AI fallible and people complain... all the time the AI is giving you lots of trouble just trying to get it to work at all...

At least we now have AI that can be told to retreat and that has more than four variations (part of the problem - only some out of the hundreds of possible settings that now exist actually work well)... smile

Brave souls for trying to create an AI with sliders (like FS:SDOE had)... and some formation level behaviours even...

(not saying that it works - just that its a hard thing to realise)

Look at whats been done with BoB 2 WoV (in it's later versions) and thats just a few guys working part-time. Having a very good SP AI in CLoD can be done but they have to set that goal and apply the resources to realize that goal. I have my doubts this will ever happen since there are just too many other things that need fixing first. Eventually time will run out and as a company they will have to move on to the next project. Hopefully a much improved AI makes it in CLoD before that happens.

Avimimus, from your post, it's easy to interpret that you nothing about Buddye and what he's done for the AI in BoB2?

This is true. Bob2 and buddye and the few people involved in the AI shows what can be accomplished.

I've actually reinstalled BoB2 a couple of months ago to see if it wasn't just my rose-tinted memories... No Sir! The BoB2 AI is, in a word, believable. Which is probably the best thing you can say about an AI in a computer game, and something that's sorely lacking with CloD so far.

Definitely. I can confirm that.

But, I still stand by the general principles of my post - for AI: It takes some talent!
