That is one big plane. Never realised how big they were.

Chucky, that dark bleak place is an airbase somewhere in Lincolshire. And the lighter area in the photo was the 'suckers gap'* that came through about half an hour before another bout of rain.

Alienax, she has an absolutely huge wing area, just as well as she made a very nice umbrella when the rain returned. She was due to fly to Portrush, but the weather in the west of the UK was a bit 'unseasonal', and shes limited to day VFR* only.

*'Suckers gap' because only a 'sucker' would take off thinking they would get back to thier airfield in similar weather, chances are the gap woVFRuld close and you'd be lost in cloud with no sight of the ground.

*VFR = Visual Flight Rules, basically you must maintain sight of the ground and horizon at all times when airborne.

Nice stuff HarryR. A shame that she's also G-limited - would be nice to test that whole "dogfight with F-15 @ 50k ft" mythology.

Gopher, there's a good tale from an ex Lightning driver who was scrambled as part of a two ship on a practice intercept from Gutersloh. When they found the target, they assumed it would be an easy 'kill', but when they tried to get a shot at it they found that it wasn't quite the sitting duck they had imagined, and they had a hard manoeuvre fight on thier hands...looks can be decieving wink

Hoooowwwwwwwwwlllllllll.

One of the most stirring sounds I've heard at an airshow, the Vulcan revving up.

I still remember seeing one at Pease back when I was a kid, my younger brother and I thought it looked like a moth with that cool camo.
