I was talking to a Canberra navigator the other day, and he was telling me stories of high altitude intercept practice against Super Sabres. Apparently they'd wait until the Sabre was a couple of miles away, and then the Canberra would go into a hard turn. As the Canberra had a much higher wing loading, it would out-turn the sabre. Then, after a couple of passes, the Sabre would be low on fuel and have to RTB.
Of course, this all changed when missiles came in.
