I have a real question, please bear with me.

EVERY single time I make a thread or post on Egosoft's forums, I get my post/thread locked. EVERY TIME. I asked an honest question on there today--locked and reprimanded. I asked in a thread about Track IR once--not only did it get locked, I got cussed out by the community. What the heck is up with that place?

On to what I asked and hopefully someone here (a much nicer place btw) can answer:

After giving up the first time playing X3, I gave it another shot and finally salvaged a ship. Then I discovered this mod called X-Tended... Is it worth my time to install? Will it confuse me? Or should I play vanilla Reunion?

This is my first X game ever, I must add, however, I'm a compulsive modder. I started modding games back in 1987 with hex editors and even modded Wolfenstein 3d when it came out to have completely new graphics/weapons etc.

I'm addicted to it.

Does this mod break the main story? It looks really neat and worth trying out.

That's odd. I find the egosoft forums some of the most helpful, reasonable, and civil forums I've ever seen. Were you posting in the mod section? The message you posted above would not get locked in the mod forum of Egosoft.

I think that you cannot play the main vanilla X3 Reunion story if you install X-Tended, but I might be wrong. I did install X-tended for X3R, and really liked it, but that was so long ago, and I didn't follow the vanilla storyline all the way through, so I can't remember.

X-Tended have their own forums, btw. Not part of Egosoft.

Yeah I posted in the mod forum. The moderator read me the riot act. They have always been @@@@'s to me there. :-| I've never had a sourer taste in my mouth about a company/community than that one. Shame too cause the game is neat.

This surprised me since I've always had the same feeling about that community as peppergomez, so I decided to have a look myself. This was the response I saw to your post:

"The X3R S&M Posting Rules (and the TC S&M Posting Rules) urge to ask questions about a script or mod in the thread of the script/mod. As example, the Rules mention explicitly a thread for XTM gameplay, which might be what your "X-Tended" query is all about.

Locking this one. Smile

As general rule it is good to know the vanilla game first, because then you know what you don't like and can guess better what kind of mods might appeal to you."

If that came across to you as the "riot act", then I'm thinking you might just a tad bit oversensitive.

X-Tended have their own forum, so maybe it's better go there

speaking of which, can you tell me has it already past the version 2.0?

Not oversensitive, looking for answers and if a mod cops that kinda attitude to a newbie right off the bat rather than letting others answer the question, it isn't cool. As far as I can tell, they are pretty draconian over there.

Reunion is up to 2.5 now? As for X-Tended... hmm I guess it is 0.7.5 now? I'm still trying to figure this all out.

Yeah, I am playing X-Tended for Reunion. Money is tight right now and I bought Reunion a while back so it'll have to do to give me the space exploration fix. wink

I am sorry to me he was telling you the rules, since, and I am guessing here you did not post in the proper place or read the rules regarding where to post the propitiate thread. I seriously found nothing wrong, it was a very gentle reminder to follow the rules.
I know I am wierd because I try to follow the posting rules smile

The problem is, every single post practically I have made on their forums has been a rule violation of some sort or really caused quite a bit of controversy (asking about Track IR support is controversial? Here it isn't... but there... oh no, don't even think of asking for it).

I agree with Bulletstop on this one. That was a polite way of pointing out how to post most efficiently. Based on that example, Blastman, I think you are perceiving an attitude that isn't there on their part.

I've been lurking the Egosoft forums for years now, and I can honestly say they are among the friendliest and most civil I have come across on the interwebs. You must have done something to make them mad. Plus, they get bombarded with stuff in the wrong threads all the time, I can imagine it gets frustrating to manage, hence the locked thread with, what I thought, was a decent explanation.

Outright bannings from the forums do happen there, but they're rare and always deserved. That forum has had its share of trouble makers and trolls over the years.

Sooooooooo I take it back. They all seem to be a bunch of good guys once you get to know them better. I guess I was a little short first time around. You just gotta conform by their system and then it all works out fine.
