I've been hooked on the American Revolution for years. Played Avalon Hill's board wargame 1776 way back when, and more recently Empire on the PC. But has anyone had any experience playing John Tiller's 1776 for the PC? Graphics look very dated, even primitive, but the little I've read suggests the gameplay is good.

Is it worth buying and playing? Any impressions?

Hello Franx,

I don't play any revolutionary wargames but I do play a lot of Tiller's Panzer Campaigns. You may want to head on over to the Blitzkrieg Wargaming Club. Many people there play Tiller games and might be able to answer your questions.

Don't know about that one but I like Tiller games in general.

I have and play another one you might look at: Birth of America 2 at Matrixgames.com

For BOA 2, if you don't have it, worth taking a go at this: http://www.amazon.com/Ageod-Strategy-Col...8081&sr=8-8

Has Birth of America 2, as well as AGEOD's Civil War & WW1 games. (WW1 has an additional "Gold package upgrade" for ~$10 or so available too)

BoA is a completely different scale to the Tiller games. Tiller games are about fighting the battles and BoA is more about the overall operational level of the war. If you want strategic battles then Tiller is the way to go. Some people complain his games are too cooky cutter like but if the system works well why change it? I don't have 1776 but recently bought Renaissance which is basically the same game system and it is good.
