Aero,
Don't listen to the guys poo pooing DX10 preview. A2A is behind the times with their planes that aren't DX10 compatible. Most of the newer stuff from other companies is DX10 compatible. And there is a reason: more and more sim flyers are using DX10 and want it. Not only are the graphics better with DX10 preview checked, perhaps, more importantly, DX10 yields a superior frame rate. My frame rate is 75%-100% higher with DX10 preview than without. 30 fps in a large city at low altitude (below 2,000 feet) with the graphics sliders all the way to the right, in DX9, becomes 60 fps with DX10 checked and nothing else changed. A few people see only about a 10% boost, but most experience significantly higher. My FPS usually doubles. Of course, you have to have a DX10 card and Windows 7. The only "bad" thing about DX10 preview is screwy rain when your plane is on the tarmac. But I never take off (or fly) in the rain, so it didn't matter to me. All the retail traffic programs are DX10 compatible. The best terrain and weather programs -ORBX, GEX, UTX, REX- are all DX10 compatible. Oh yeah, and you can bet your bottom dollar the next iteration, which is under development, called "Flight" will have full DX10 and DX11 compatibility. So much for those old A2A DX9 add-ons. And what exactly is the point when you have DX10 capability in your hardware to play any game in DX9 when DX10 is an option?
I hope that when you checked DX10 preview that you exited the game and came back in before trying it. You have to do that. You can't just check the box and fly and notice a difference.
Happy flying!
