Hi,

a graphiccard/driver related error, when the graca or driver dont support some sort of 8 bit screens.

Several old games suffer by this.

Often you can get around it by using EAW1.28e or by using the 3d windower.

Greetings,

Knegel

The 1.2 eaw.exe is programmed to test to see if the graphics card/driver can handle 8 bit graphics as soon as the program runs.
If it fails the test then the eaw.exe is programmed to CTD with the 7217 error message.
There are references to a 7217 error elsewhere, but this one is specific to EAW. If the EAW coders had typed "1234" then the user would receive a 1234 error message.

I have a radon 4550 that just got new upgrade. Untill now Ive been running it at 1280 x 1224 32bit 75 hz
and eaw was running just fine, then the upgrade hit and now error 7217. I don't like 1.28e be cause I cant use padlock (just because the maker does not like it does not mean he should force it on others). that being said will 1.28e fix this.

Wild Bill,
padlock works in 1.28e just as well as it worked with original EAW. The only difference in the
targeting is the 'target' now needs to be closer.
The 'upgrade' to your 4550 apparently included a driver change that is not compatable with EAW.
Either 'roll back' the driver to the previous driver, or give D3D Windower a try.
I am not familiar with graphic-card upgrades or patches. Usually I just upgrade the video-card.

1.28e MAY fix your 7217 error......and if it doesn't, the D3D Windower might. But you might end up
having to roll back your video-card driver.

Hi WB,

got to: "Configure game"-->"difficulty"-->"Combat table" set "Player Skill" to "Veteran" or "Green". Padlock will work.

To solve your problem with 1.2, go back with the driver, if you dont need the new for other aplications.

Greetings,

Knegel
