I was lusting for the Joylock clamp on joystick platform that was advertised on SimHQ, so decided to see if I could build something that did basically the same thing

The attached pics were about a $25 investment at Home Depot for their high quality drawer guides that can cantilever and a bit of lumber and hardware. My flying furniture is a little unique already, I'm a tired old architect, so it seemed appropriate to use a tired old drafting table for my desk / flying space

The joystick platform can be slid out or slid back, gets the joystick right between your legs, great for ROF or Il2 WWII vintage planes. The top is removable so you could easily change it out for a different joystick configuration. The windfall is you get the desk back with easy keyboard access for chatting or short cuts. I am a big fan of the Saitek Quads as well and have two of them, covers most of the set ups you might need for WWI or WWII sims including bombers

A little trivia, the chair is called "The Goodform Chair" got it on craigslist for $30. An all aluminum frame, one of the first manufactured in the late 1930's. During WWII they closed the factory and manufactured aluminum frames for aircraft. Too much good karma not to buy it.

Nice set up Geez! Now all you need is a monitor... WinkNGrin

Those chairs are all over the place at where I work; they just refuse to die AND provide armor protection as well!

I like it! My current solution is a tea tray on my lap, with the joystick on that. Crude, but it works. smile I've got a wheel clamped to my desk, no room for a clamped joystick as well, so the tea tray method means I can use a joystick and keep the wheel where it is as well. smile

"Poor Man's" ? Let me tell you about mine... My joystick is strapped to an old stool. When I want to fly, I place the stool between the desk and the chair and pull the monitor and keyboard closer to the front of the desk. Done.

The former system included a poorly constructed wooden U (actually a former drawer slot from an old Ikea desk) bolted under the desk. The joystick was strapped to a 15" plank (known as the Magic Plank, the most useful piece of furniture I've ever owned). The joystick was installed by slipping the magic plank into the U and wedging an old shirt in to avoid wobbling. Worked a charm, and it put the stick right on my lap biggrin . I might actually get back to that system.

The 'desk' itself is a 80x30" plank on trestles.

Those my friend, are poor man's movable joystick platforms wink

Cheers

Nico

Same here, I'm looking for inspiration so keep the ideas coming!

I live in a small apartment and my "desk" is in the living room so I can't get too fancy! But I'm getting tired of propping my elbow on the arm of a desk chair and reaching up to the joystick sitting on the desk..
