I am now officially addicted to WoT. During Irene, which turned out to be very mellow for NYC, I played all day long. smile I've now got an M5 Stuart, M3 Lee, an M4 Sherman, a T1 HT, the surprisingly effective RAM II and a T57 SPG. I am really not all that up on all the nonsense about tier this or that, I just try and load up mah ride wif da mostest n' dah bestest. smile

The best thing was that a bud of mine was also stuck home and he has WoT also. We hooked up fer about 4 hours Saturday evening and really had a blast. WoT really shines when you play with a team mate. Operating as 2 tank platoon we were able to garner some real xp and battle wins. And while we weren't always on the winning side in a match we always managed to get some decent scores.

While there are arcadish elements to WoT I am starting to feel that it is one of the few games of it's type that actually encourage tactical sense, if only sometimes just your own tanks actions. When my bud and I 'clicked' and got our act together, we used classic movement techniques like bounding overwatch, shoot and scoot, proper usage of cover and concealment and not sky-lining our selves, we did VERY well. And being on TS helped us tremendously as we called out threats and targets and good fighting positions. It was very rewarding. Unlike some of the shooter type games most of our opponents used better techniques also. There are always goobers who just run and gun on whatever platform yer on but in the main peeps at least TRIED to use the right methods. So while the multinational tank mix is a little jarring and the Uber tanks can be a pain. If we used the right methods we generally survived matches intact. It is a shame that WoT is not at the present time allowing more than 2 vehicle platoons (3 if yer premium). I thing it's been remarked that this is in the pipeline. I hope that happens soon. Because with a TS commed 4 tank platoon we could go to town. If they made it as easy to form up a platoon let say as World of warcraft lets you form raid groups, then things might really get smoking.

Yeah I am now a Fanboi. smile But things simply rock when people can play platoons.

To be honest, a 2-man platoon is fun but if you're paying for premium and only get 3-man platoons, that, for me, feels short-changed. IIRC there were plans to introduce 5-man platoons which would be all sorts of awesome but last I heard only a few select "my entire paycheck goes to my WoT addiction" players.

Glad to see you're having fun though. Me and my son play this game and enjoy it immensely.

I happen to agree with you on the subject of platoon sizes as currently implemented in WoT. But if the developers follow through on their statement to bring larger platoons then this may be a moot issue.

I dunno, 5 man platoons would probably cause a lot of problems with random battles. Unless they're totally incompetent, any team with a 5 man platoon has a huge advantage. And I imagine it would be difficult for the balancer to make even matches.

The limit of three people to a platoon is mainly for the matcher to try and create a balanced mix of forces on each side. As it stands, 3 people could be in a platoon and all of them have an artillery unit for instance. Three artillery units per side is probably the most you would want. If you raise the platoon size to 6 for instance, now 6 people could all have artillery units and that would be alot of artillery for one side in a match and it would unbalance things.

Personally I would like them to raise the platoon size up but then make "slots" of a max type that can filled in the platoon. 3 heavy slots max, 3 medium slots max, 3 light slots max, 3 tank destroyer slots max, etc etc. Now the platoon of over 3 people would have be a mix of more than one type of unit so the matcher can work better with that. Perhaps the platoon would also force the units inside it to be within 3 tiers of each other or such.

No reason the matchmaker can't put 6 random non-platooned arty units on the opposite side...

Hey guys, Old member, used to be mostly into airplane sims. I am new to this forum.

Team play is definitely quite a bit more fun. There are several Casual Clans, being in one of them makes it quite a bit easier to find people to platoon with. The next patch is also suppose to add 5 person platoons and tier restricted Company Battles.

The following is a blatant advertisement.
My WoT tag is bumpkin, clan DHO2. We are a casual Clan and currently not active in Clan Wars. The only real admittance requirement is you have to be a father/dad. The Clan also uses Ventrilo rather than the ingame chat. There is also a site www.dadshideout.com associated with the clan. We even have a clan on European server.

Greg.
