I was trying out the Spit IIa and Hurri Rotor or whatever. I was on full realism as far as the plane goes. I found them difficult to fly compared to IL2 4.10 And I rode the tail of the Stukas keeping just below the tail gunner. Gees I had to fill those planes with a tone of lead. Good thing I cheated by having unlimited ammo. And when I went to land, the AI Pilots seem to be dense as they did not bother lowering their gear. I upped the land detail and that seemed to reduce the rivers and shore being composed of those jagged squire blocks.
The planes I was flying seemed to be slow from what I expect. I learned to open the radiator asap and keep up the energy. But still...
Is it just me and just needing to get use to a new game?
Race you to the Mucky Duck!

The planes in CLOD have a more realistic flight model than the ones in 4.10.The first IL2 game had a very realistic FM but people complained and Oleg and 1C made them easier (ie less realistic) to fly.Players became accustomed to the Cessna like FM's forgetting that warplanes are a handful to fly.CLOD is a lot like microsoft CFS3 in the realism of it's FM's and controls.Hang in there and one day you will be a true ace.

The original Il2 flight model was great, and then they noobed it out because people complained. Hope that doesn't happen here. Couldn't agree more

Take off and landings are easy in CLOD (glad to see some mention of a update from Iyla is in the works) - it feels like the aircraft have modern aircraft carrier rated landing gear...
The roll rates are more in line with what most aircraft of the period were capable of (not the IL2 high roll rates) which gives you a feeling of almost a slow motion dogfight.

The early model Spits and Hurri's were armed with only .303 cal machine guns, no 20MM cannon. You definately will need to get many more hits to get a kill. Also getting the right distance from the target is critical with wing mounted guns, convergence and all that.
This game lets you determine the type of ammo you use. I get the best effects with armor piercing incendary API rounds

Are you definitely sure about prop wash being present in CoD blackdog? Well, i heard someone mention it on the banana forums and tested it myself. It's not very pronounced but there seemed to be a slight bouncing around when flying directly behind another aircraft. Easiest way to test this would be to set up an escort mission in one of the pre-set attack missions in QMB without any opposition, put yourself in a fighter and just park behind one of the bombers you're escorting at a range you'd normally shoot from. Last time i tested this it was a few patches ago, there was a bit of bouncing around but it was really subtle, going to zoomed-in view helps to make it more perceptible.

I guess if you do not comment here often your comments just get deleted.

Don't you get the same slight bouncing about when you are flying next to a bomber?

Play it like you like it arcade or simulation like you chose. If I chose simulation like it is the way I like it and still it is easy to land and take off a plane in Cliffs of Dover. More so than in IL2 1946, where judging the distance to the ground and more importantly the angle of approach to the ground was difficult to judge. Have fun and enjoy the game.
