Based on these two articles, I'd say no one really knows: In this one, they talk about no knowing the condition of the landing sites and that the LRO will take photos of it: http://www.space.com/6993-apollo-11-moon-landing-flag-standing.htmlFrom that article: What is the condition of Tranquility base after 40 years? Was the American flag blown over on the Eagle's ascent and is it now a bleached skeleton? What are the relatively long term effects of the lunar environment on human artifacts? And in this one, they show some photos taken, but they're not detailed enough to know the condition of the flag. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/multimedia/lroimages/apollosites.htmlMy deduction is that they didn't know before the photos were taken, and they didn't find out after the photos were taken, so basically no one knows.

That's true: no one knows, because no one has been back since to look. It might well be a 'flag skeleton' now.

I think one or more might have been knocked over by the ascent stage when they left, and could be covered in a fine coating of regolith that actually may have protected them. The rest I'm sure are still there and looking a bit aged unless some alien souvenir hunters combed thru the sites. The Jedi Master

'flag skeleton' Reminded me of this classic: http://www.theonion.com/articles/archaeological-dig-uncovers-ancient-race-of-skelet,1268/As Jedi says, I think some ascent footage actually shows early landings blowing their own flags over. I'm not sure if later landings planted it further away as I think 'get the flag in' was pretty high up in the mission orders of the first landing.
