FFG (fantasy flight games) is releasing X-Wing in 2012. It is described as "tactical space combat" in the SW universe. Depending on the game mechanics it could be a good game!

here is some info:

Man, what I wouldn't give to see a re-make of the original X-Wing computer game (sim?) by LucasArts and Larry Holland. I remember playing that in college and not believing what I was getting for 40 bucks. It was a rebel pilot wannabe's dream-come-true.

If you have played the boardgame "Wings of War"; this will play like it.

I'd trade in 10,000 of those for a remake of X-Wing with modern aesthetics.

cool! I know of WoW, but I have never played the game.

Is WoW a detailed game with good flight mechanics? Or is it more of a jump in and do anything you want type of game? I ask because I am hoping that since FFG is billing this game as "tactical" it will have some detail to the mechanics or if it is simiplified that it will still adhere to how we see the ships in SW fly around.

OT, you have a cake next to your name! Happy Birthday!!!

So uh..how many people out there do you think still play boardgames?

I'm sorry but if it's a combat game that involves number crunching, tons of little plastic and cardboard counters and dice rolling then I'll just play the computer version. smile

edit...d'oh, did not even think of checking out BGG for X-wing. X-wing is number 1 on the hot list at the moment (no surprise).

Boardgames and wargames have evolved a lot in the past two decades, just like videogames. You still have the dice rolling, but there is really no number crunching anymore.

Besides, one thing you have with boardgames which is more difficult to obtain with videogames is to have a bunch of friends over for Sunday afternoon, playing together around the kitchen table while having beer and chips. smile

You can get all of that same social interaction by having a local LAN gaming session. I know, I used to do that all the time. smile

I do have fond memories from my jr. high and high school days of playing Axis & Allies with my friends until the wee hours of the morning though.

It's a beer and pretzels type game.

You draw cards which dictates how you can move, and each turn you place X number of cards down as your move (as does your opponent), and if you can fire you shoot at him.

Very simple video showing the game:
