I always preferred Oleg stock fire effects for their long smoke trails, varied thin/thick gray/black smoke and so I never really appreciated Plutonium rendition with short and thin smoke trails. But now, by pure chance I stumbled upon RusPS repackaged effects with bits from Plutonium, FX revolution and others, and I think it looks nearly as good as CoD's effects (apart form ground explosions- those in CoD are mind blowingly better). The effects are nice to watch indeed. Interesting content.
I only find it suspicious, that each ground target is so easy to destroy and also with a huge explosion each time. This is very much arcade.

Maybe he was a good shot, or maybe he had arcade mode on... Either way- love his effects! I think that his smoke effects in UP3 are better than in UP2.01. My own tiny clip showing his mod in action in UP3/DBW... http://youtu.be/Ee8jx8X7aRQ

Does this new 'effects' package work for a guy like me? I am a SP player who's patched to the most current version--that is to say, I am PC savvy enough to use 'ultra pack';

It works for anyone- whether you have Ultra Pack or you don't. If you dont have Ultra Pack, then just get a mod activator and then this MOD. If you do have Ultra Pack, then just get the mod. Read through FAQ on mods on SAS1946 site, the process is very straight forward and has about 3 steps.

Stupid question BUT if I drop this mod into the JGME folder will it work with whatever flavor I select? ie UP3, HSFX or DBW.

I believe JGSME needs some extra little file to go with any mod, so it could recognise it. That is why I always simply put mods in MODS ( for Up2.01 or mod activators), #UP# (up3) or #DBW#(dbw) folders.
