All good suggestions above. Try the stock cooler. If that doesn't do the job, buy an after market cooler. There are a few that are very close in performance. So, it comes down to price -- which varies with sales. A couple more to consider. Both are highly rated in test reports. I own and have tested both -- they are within a degree or two of each other. After my testing, I concluded it comes down to the fan you use for maximum cooling. But, maximum will be noisy and only a few to several degrees cooler than quiet fans. HOLY HEATSINK BATMAN!!! In checking just now, I found the nearly "unbeatable" Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus (one that I own and was going to recommend) is only $24.99 with free shipping today. It has been selling for $50 lately. I got mine for $30 last November and then the price went up and up as more folks caught on to its value. Well now its less than what I paid. So, I'm buying another one Coolermaster Hyper 212 Notice over 1500 user comments and 5 egg rating. Notice its for Sandy Bridge (works fine with my AMD). This being so cheap I won't mention the other heatsink I have which would be over $70 normally WHOOPS, I just noted -- you may be posting from "out of town". Well, maybe there is a similar sale in Europe. Nice Catch, im gonna grab a 2 or so on payday, my Zalman 9700NT is showing its age, and well, I want to unlock/overclock my brother's CPU (which runs stable w/ all 4 unlocked), I got up to 3.6 GHz Two Core on the stock no copper or pipe heatsink before temps got to an eyebrow raising spot (I usually run stock in the summer and OC in the winter when ambient temps are lower. also, note, about 1/2 of the 1 or 2 egg feedback comments aren't even for the heatsink, i found a few complaining about defective PSU plugs and one about a bad SATA Cable lol....

for those who have switched from the Stock cooler to tower style cooler. What kind of change did you see on mobo\VRM temps? On some tower coolers VRM and NB temps will rise due to reduced airflow. Actually, I didn't notice any -- but I didn't look for that However, when I went over to water cooling the CPU recently, I did notice the MB ran a bit hotter than expected. I cured that with a fan mounted on the side of the case (using the standard mounting point on the left side of the case). It blows down onto the MB components needing cooling. That made a several degree difference.

My VRM and Mobo Temps went down when I switched my X2 6000+ from the stock AMD cooler to the Zalman 9700NT, as long as you have a good air flow, in my case (sorry for the pun) the air moves from Front to Back, and Bottom to Top. The only dead spot being the bottom rear where hte I/o ports bracket is, but the vent is also open so air can escape.
I have 120mm Fan (130CF/m) in the Top Front which uses a 5/12 Bay x 3 mod, a 120 mm (90 CFM) fan in front on the bottom in front of the HDDs, a 120mm (130 CFM) Fan in the top back directly behind the CPU Heatsink (in fact the 120mm (130CFM) fans are in line with the CPU heatsink creating a Turbine like effect, so when or if My CPU Fan Fails, temps stay decent (i've tested with the CPU Fan off the unit).
then a 80 mm (60 CFM) Fan on the Side Window in the Front Bottom blowing on the side of the HDDs, as well as another 120 mm 60 CFM Fan about 2 inches off the case floor blowing up at an angle towards the back.
not counting fans on the PSU, GPU, or SPU (yes I mounted fans on my XFi Card) There is also a small (older AGP VGA Style) Fan mounted onto my HDMI Card as well. I build custom coolers for alot of my stuff so that is why i have coolers on alot of my cards. At one point when I Had the space I was sitting old CPU Heatsinks on top of my HDDs
My VRM Temps actually exceeded their max once when I rand the stock AMD Cooler when the system was merely weeks old, thus frying botht he CPU and VRM, which was under a copper heatsink w/ A heatpipe from the Northbridge to the VRM heatsink, so that heatsink shared between the VRM and NB, Temps also got close to max when I got the new mainboard back, and found it it was because it was having HOT air from the CPU heatsink blown onto it. once I swapped to the Heatpiped Zalman 9700NT the temps of both th CPU, NB, VRM and Aux Chipset dropped considerably.
It all depends on layout design and airflow though

It has been selling for $50 lately... The above posted July 27. The $25 one I ordered on the 27th has been delivered. Now, the price on the Hyper 212 has risen ~20 percent to $29.49. I wonder if they plan to do what they did from November to July -- jack up the price little by little until its back to $50. Anyhow, its still a great buy at $30.
